We've updated the Donation Center with some new coding to reduce lag. It will only load 2000 items at a time, although items over that amount aren't lost or deleted!
You may notice that the names aren't showing; right now this is intentional, to reduce the number of queries per page. However, we understand that part of the fun may be seeing who's pitched in a gift, or who has a birthday, or who's really gotten into a site event; please provide your feedback on the forums on whether you'd prefer names on the donations or not.
We've put some candy hearts in there as well, so please test it out and tell us what you think of the changes.
Thank you for being a Subetan!

Glad to see a solution to the lag issue :) thanks guys! Oh and I prefer usernames as well ~
Count me in as someone who prefers usernames on items in the DC.
I prefer usernames. People donate valuable things and it would be nice for those that like to thank others for such nice donations.
Also: I don't like the current set up, the page is too long, maybe reduce the items shown or less spacers between the items. :x

Thank you for the fix! Would it be possible to paginate/reduce the amount shown on the page (or is it that you're trying to fly away from the many refreshes on the page?). My only 'dislike' is that I have to scroll down to see the full 'stock' when there are 20+ items.
I don't really mind seeing usernames or not, but it would be nice if the person who donates can choose to be an anonymous donor or not (something we can toggle on/off on the preference page?)
Items could say "donated by " or "donated by Anonymous" if the user chose not to have the username displayed
I prefer usernames! I like to say thanks to the people who donate items there c:

i like usernames too. maybe when we click on an item, it will list the name of the user who donated that item? not sure if that would reduce the number of queries though.
I also prefer seeing the names, if it doesn't cause too much trouble. Thank you for the other updates as well though to help reduce the lag <3
I prefer seeing the names (but appreciate the benefit if removing them does make a significant difference in lag)
Edit: The current number of items on the page is suitable (with the way they're packed tight at present), but with names displayed, I think it would be too many.

As for the anonimity .. I'm just so used to seeing who donated what for all the reasons you mentioned above, especially the birthday giveaways... plus probably some I can't think of right now. I'm not sure I'm ready for it being completely anonymous.

while i personally don't care whether usernames are there or not...maybe they could be on like a separate page once you actually click to claim the item? that way all the names wouldn't have to be loaded on the main page if that makes sense
i definitely prefer seeing usernames. if queries are that big a problem, i read on the discord that regular text as opposed to links for the name could be a compromise? maybe?
plus, although lots of items may be in the DC, seeing no names attributed to them almost makes the site feel dead in a weird way, and it doesn't sit right with me lol. but maybe selecting to be anonymous anytime you donate could be a thing in the future? not a feature i would use, but for some perhaps. don't know if that'd be worth it though considering i see a majority of people fine with their usernames being shown
Is being able to turn off usernames a possibility? I would donate more stuff if no one knew it came from me. Like if I wanted to stealth quit I could dump all my stuff and walk away lol.
Thank you for the fix. It is nice to see the user names so they get some recognition for their kindness.
Calendar days are closer than they appear! [item=mocking clock]
Thanks for working on the Donation Center issues. I prefer seeing the usernames.
Names on the donations is absolutely part of the fun and culture of the site!
I get that you want to try and fix the lag on site and I understand why change needs to happen.
However, I'm not sure this works for the DC. When you donate a lot of items..it's first added to inventory..first added to donation corner when you mass donate. So if I have like 1k hearts and 1k trinkets and 1k coins...the coins won't show until the 2k hearts and trinkets are gone. This means that randomness won't work anymore.
I also feel that the 2k limit is quite small considering a lot of people donate items to the DC. I don't think 50k is appropriate either, but maybe more closer to 10k?
I also love to see who is donating items because it could be their birthday or someone leaving the site or someone doing a huge giveaway. It's nice to know who to thank.
Just my 2 cents...
Love may not always be destiny, But a Gift.

You aren't correct in how items get added to the donation center, and they're still randomized.
And to be clear, the question isn't "should we flip the switch to have usernames back on, no problem" but do you want programmer time and energy spent on that.
Fixing the page so that it can load the item information and show the donation items without crashing was a fairly easy fix, primarily because we could remove the user information which is an additional query for every item on the page.
Bringing back that information will require re-writing the entire page, and IMO, there are more important fish to fry right now.

I like the anonymity of not knowing who donated what, just like in real life. I also like that more items are on the page to choose from without usernames and having to scroll.
If users want to thank the donators we could make another thread in the forums thanking the DC donators specifically, like we do in the thread to thank your anon gifter(s).
