I just received the achievement "Get the Eskimo Kiss," and I'm hurt by this language. I am Inuit from Alaska, and I abhor the use of the E word. It had been used in a derogatory way to dehumanize my people. While some Inuit are fine with this term, a growing number of us recognize the dark history of racism behind the word. I don't know if the Subeta staff are aware of this. If anyone knows who I can talk to about this, please let me know. I do not like the E word, or anything associated with my race, being used in this way. It is incredibly hurtful.

I have posted this in other forum threads, but it was suggested to me that this may be the place to talk about this. I'm open to answering any questions for anyone who is curious to learn more.

I just browsed through Wikipedia (here + here) and understand where you’re coming from. I wasn’t aware it was considered an offensive term.

Subeta intends to be a welcoming place to everyone and staff should be open to changing the name of the achievement to something more appropriate. The kiss itself is a hex that shows up on avatars’ faces so I think “Get the Nose Kiss” or “Get the Face Kiss” might be an appropriate change?

Could use the correct term Kunik. But Nose Kiss sounds more general without a lot of questions.

For replacement names, 'get the nose kiss' makes sense to me. There's already one for "Get the Cheek Kiss" and I could see 'face kiss' being a little too ambiguous.

Oh wow, I didn't realize it was a derogatory term until I stumbled across this thread and Wiki. That's my bad. Honestly, thank you for making this thread not only for the staff to correct but for a lot of us that weren't aware! I think Nose Kiss would be a good fix too.

I posted in the other thread about moving it to this forum, not realising a thread had already been made about it here. I agree that it's outdated and could do with being changed. Would it also have to be changed in the coding for the hex/overlay, or does it not use that word there?

As minimods we don't have any powers outside of the forum.

"Nose kiss" would be an ideal change for the name. I think it would be an appropriate replacement. I am not aware of any other instances of the E word being used across the site, but I would appreciate checking for it. Thank you all so much for understanding!
