I've been job-hunting lately because my current job causes me way too much anxiety and I can't take it anymore. I'm a school bus driver, and the kids in the beginning were fine, but now the responsibility of getting so many kids to their destinations and having their lives in my hands kinda scares me a lot for some reason. I think it's just the pressure? But it also just isn't very engaging. Once I learned all the CDL stuff, the challenge was gone and it just made the job into a more mental challenge from how much pressure it feels like there is (some of it is just knowing we are super understaffed, there aren't enough bus drivers after covid hit).

So I'm curious, how did you get your job? Do you like your current job? Did you know what you wanted to do and went in that direction, or did you stumble upon it?

I feel like I'm not sure of all the options available to me, and maybe hearing from others would help me figure more out.

Mine working towards the job mine chose, studying automotive technology.

This began over a decade ago when I was in my early college years. Someone from a class approached me, asking about video games. This began a long time friendship, which was cemented by a proposal to dismantle an '88 Pontiac Fiero. We spent a summer working and a year slowly building his dream car, a replica 2000 Lamborghini Diablo Roadster.

As the years passed, we began spending weekends working on his family's cars, with some other cars mixed in. At some point I decided to change majors to pursue an automotive certification. I began fully devote my studies here in 2020, and had few delays or obstacles since.

I'm still a long way off from being a marketable technician, but this is the path mine chose to make my bread. My late start will not be anything to keep me from this perverse bliss... Mine hate some people's attitudes towards their cars...

Mine not know why the ping

Old, and obsolete.

I'm a receptionist/admin assistant at an assisted living home for people with dementia and related illnesses. I got the job by looking through the Indeed.com app. Applied one evening, got a call the next day, and now I've been here about a year (it'll be a year on the 25th actually). I like it well enough. I just kind of stumbled upon this job, like my last job in the same field, and because I already had experience in the field, I got this one pretty easily. I wouldn't say I'm in love with this kind of work, it's stressful and not very rewarding some times, but it's a paycheck. My boss is great though (as opposed to my last one, who was a complete and total crazy bitch) and most of my coworkers are good. This isn't what I really want to be doing though...but I don't know what that is, besides things that'll never happen like being a marine biologist or owning a boat and giving dolphin tours or something involving the ocean.

I got my job right after graduating college in my field. I was working at Best Buy while trying to land something interesting +++ grinding money before my mother passed away (basically wanted to secure my life while taking care of her). I found a summer contract in my field and applied for an open position at the end of the summer. I got promoted quickly to a regular contract and then kept climbing the ladder where I'm at now, which is a technician in social work in a nonprofit. I basically go between my office and schools, try to keep teens enrolled in highschool, make projects, etc etc.

It's a decent job and the pay is alright. I can't afford a house and probably not a car on my own but I can live comfortably and be free with my money .... If we can say it like that. I'm also the vice-president of my union and we are trying to get an equal raise for everyone. It's a demanding job and I am currently looking elsewhere n__n;

I ran into my current boss at the dog park (we had originally met at a dog daycare I worked at a few years earlier where she was taking training classes). I was doing dog walking for another company, but she had mentioned how she was looking to hire and I said I'd be happy to come over if she wanted (I was already looking to quit where I was, so this provided me a good opportunity). Almost six years later and here I still am lol

Im a character at one of the Disney parks, and I had to audition for it! It was a really fun improv audition, a big group of us were in a huge audition room and split into groups, and we all took turns answering questions and playing improv games. I've been here for five years, and it's been really fun! It's a little difficult on the body, though, and since the pandemic started it hasn't been the same and I'm thinking about leaving hehe.

I work retail. It's not my ideal job but I love the department I work in. Working retail has made me despise people though.

I got my job because I was looking for one and they were hiring. Been there for 10 years. Have my moments but I do enjoy it for the most part. I have great co workers. Lane is what kills me. I couldn't be a cashier.

i teach english as a second language and got the job thru luck, nepotism and a desperate employer lmao

all things considered it's alright? the pay is kinda shit and the hours are weird but it doesn't take much effort, the worst part i guess is that i don't like kids so having to deal with them (especially the 10-11 year olds) makes me miserable but eh c'est la vie at least during exam season i can also work invigilating exams which is great because i literally get paid to do nothing but sit in a room

I'm a dog / cat Groomer! My old boss used to see me at agility class with my dog and told my friends mom (whom she was friends with) that if I was looking for a job she needed a receptionist for her grooming salon. After a few years I started to bathe dogs and then was slowly taught to groom. I love it but its much harder when what most people think!

i work in a local fish and chip shop! my boss was advertising a job opening on facebook for someone to basically just come in and work the till and so my partner went in to meet him with me as their support person (we actually started out as shop regulars bc the food is really good lmao) and our boss was basically like "well if youre going to come in to keep cloud company sometimes we might as well train you too just in case" and now my partner (the main cook) and i (mostly on the till) have been there just over a year and the shop will fall apart without us.

as much as i do enjoy my job this is... absolutely not where i want to be lmao. in all honesty i want to be a housewife one day. ideally a housewife and a photographer but a housewife is more achievable. alas, me and my partner and our wonderful flatmate are all poor and disabled and have bills and rent to pay and we need all the extra income we can get. ;u;

After teaching preschool for years, I needed to take a step back for my mental health. I usually search for jobs on Indeed. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so I just searched for jobs in my city within 10-15 miles away. I took a chance on a newer online customer service company, and now I have been with them for 2 and a half years and have moved into a leadership position. I do miss teaching, but it will always be there if I want to go back. <3

I was looking for an internship in my 3rd year of college and, through my college's job search site, ended up applying to this job that had a whole bunch of descriptors that I didn't really understand. The interview was mostly testing for personality fit, so it didn't really matter in the end.

Then, I started the internship just as the pandemic started. Even though I studied in STEM, the job ended up being mostly administrative stuff, so the extent I used my degree to was mostly just making cool spreadsheets. They liked me enough to keep me on part-time through my last year of college and brought me on full-time after I graduated. My coworkers are great to work with, the pay is good for what it is, and I've only ever worked from home with no plans on going to the office, so I'm pretty comfortable where I'm at.

Indeed has always been my BFF!

I got my current job through Indeed, but found out I had a friend working there. It is a nursing home. They are literally hiring anyone with a pulse right now, so if you are looking for a job in healthcare you could always train as a CNA - a lot of places are offering paid training and much better wages than they used to.

I'm leaving my nursing home job, last day is on Monday. I am transitioning back to a former employer, who reached out to me through Indeed. At first, I LAUGHED OUT LOUD because when I worked there, it was a group home for teenage boys with behavioral issues and it was awful. They have since switched to an adult home. When I saw that in the ad, I reached out to a friend of mine who still worked there. He was SUPER excited that I might come back. There were still a few people left from when I worked there, and they all wanted me to come back (including the house manager) so it made the decision really easy for me. It is also only 5 miles from my house so the amount of monies I am going to save on gas is really substantial.

Use Indeed, update your resume, the right employer may reach out to YOU <3
