Hi, returning oldbie here - I was poking around the FAQs around the whole legacy name system and the update that allowed pets names to be non-unique, but there's something I can't quite figure out.

In Welcome back to Subeta: a guide, one of the items deals with your pets who have an underscore and numbers after their name. I read through the FAQ linked for that, the very thorough FAQ about Legacy Names/Non-Unique Pet Names, but I'm afraid that didn't actually answer the question of the numbers? For instance I have two pets, Industry and Altar, who 100% did not have numbers in their name before, and now they do? I made them way before the whole non-unique pets thing got introduced, so presumably at the time they would have been unique? Or is there something I'm missing about how the legacy system works?

Thanks in advance :)

Before the unique names system was put in place, if you were inactive for 10+ months pet names became eligable for clearing, meaning other users at the time could change their own pets' names to that of an inactive user's pet names. In turn the old names were given numbers.

Ooohhh wait I think I vaguely remember a friend telling me about this some years back!

So, is there a way I can get rid of the numbers? Can I just change the name back to what it was before? I don't really care what the legacy name shows as, since I know I can hide that with CSS if I want, but I'd like to have a non-number name showing in the profile if possible.

You can change all your pet names for free if you have a gold account, you can change their names once a month. For non gold accounts you can change a single pet name once a week I believe. Go to your pet page (where they all are) and the little arrow drop down will give you a link to change pet name.

The legacy names will always have numbers, but if you want you can also "wash away" the legacy name at the bathhouse pools. Be warned, though, if you wash away the legacy name, you won't be able to change your mind, once gone, they are gone for good.

Perfect, thank you so much :)

[EDIT]

Oops, I think we posted at the same time.

One question I had about the washing-away-legacy-names thing - it doesn't clear my pet's birthday, does it?

No, if you choose to wash away the legacy name it will only remove the legacy name. Everything else about the pet (regular name, pet ID, birthday, etc.) will stay how it is.

Thanks :) I figured that was the case but since it's PERMANENT and iireversible I just wanted to be 100% sure!
