Is there an event on New Years day involving getting them?

Yes, if I recall correctly, you get them via questing. There is a shop in which to spend them. They'll probably do a news post about it later today or tomorrow. They also tend to reset quests after starting the event.

[-Winks] Yup you get them from quests and there is even a random event were you can find a single token on the ground while exploring the site. C:

[-Winks] Also the New Year event usually lasts about a week or two (or 10 days or something like that). So it's more than just the one day, you should have plenty of time to earn some tokens.

[-Winks] It's still only the 31st in the time zone that Subeta time is based in, the event usually begins sometime on January 1st. So we've still got a little while until it's set to start. But there should be a news post once it begins letting everyone know.
