Maxwell: What it says on the title

Our grandpa used to write in his books and we're tempted to do the same with our personal copies of books. Our personal copies are all torn up and well-used anyway, unless they're collector's books, and it seems like it might be fun to highlight good quotes or write about character analysis or foreshadowing that we pick up on each re-reading. I was curious if anyone else does the same since opinions on doing it seem to be mixed

In highschool we were told to annotate, and I enjoyed it though I haven't kept up with the habit even though I intended to (partially because I don't read much).

I haven't, although I have felt like annotating books would be a fun way to engage with them, my mother ingrained a sort of sacred point of view when it comes ot books. No spine cracking or page folding allowed. Writing in them seems sacrilegious still lol

I teach, and I like to have my copies annotated with mini bookmarks to signify different aspects students need to look for, so I'm prepared before I see my classes. I don't do this with my personal books, though -- only ones for school.
