Ever so often that Red Rreign lad gives me a blessing supposedly and as much as I appreciate the cheek kissing um... does it do anything in game or is it just flavor text for sake of it?

Well, it unlocks an achievement, so that's fun! It gives you a little mark on your HA cheek as well for a little bit after the fact.
