so my job that i hate really really wants me to stay through the next 6 months (their busy season)
they know i've been looking for a new job, and i have an offer for a nannying position. but i cannot decide what i want. They are struggling to find an additional full time admin person. They need one for additional support for busy season, that can then transition to be my replacement. i am really good at my jb and know the office like the back of my hand, i would be a huge loss especially if i left before i had the chance to fully train someone. they have offered me a ridiculous amount of money to stay on for another 6 months and really want to work with me to fix a lot of the stuff that has been making me miserable.
before all that, i had been almost 100% set on leaving and accepting the nannying job but i just did a full day trial on friday for that and while i really really need the work-life balance it would offer, and the pay is okay, the work itself is not that enjoyable. the kids are cute but idk it was a little different than i expected. i knew taking care of two toddlers is a ton of work but it was somehow even more exhausting than i expected. the whole day was just pure chaos.
so now i feel like i dislike the work itself for both jobs equally, its really just a matter of money vs work-life balance. also, the nannying job would be permanent (potentially having to supplement with a second job in the summer because my hours would be cut), while i am only staying at the office job until april then i would have to find something else.
i am really not sure what i want ugh.
if it was me I'd take the money, suffer for 6 months, and then hope that something more suited for you comes along in 6 months. Better the devil you know & all that + it sounds like both jobs would be annoying and this one has a very specific end date so you can move on to something better if it comes along after the 6 months. But obviously it depends how much this job sucks & is crushing your soul
If you're already disappointed with the nannying job after one day then I wouldn't expect it to get better, if anything it would probably get worse. Also already having to anticipate needing a second job to supplement income...nah. Your current job is offering a pay increase, willingness to listen to your complaints and change, and it would give you time to find something better than that job and the nanny job both, sounds like a win.

Yea I would take the extra money for now. You can suffer with something you know for a while longer and something better might come along around April. Sounds like the nannying job is a risk, it may or may not get better but it’s hard to be working then have to later scramble for supplemental income. Plus you could have extra money to even take some time off to look for something if you need to

i talked to my boss yesterday and told her that if i could wfh at least one day a week, i would stay until april. we're working out the specifics but i think that makes the most sense and is reasonable. my commute is over an hour each way so having even one day a week that i dont have to deal with that would be huge.
yay! I hope they back up their claims and are willing to work with you on that, long commutes are so exhausting! very very happy for you that you're setting boundaries and working towards changes that prioritize your happiness!
