Idk if corvoo does but offinz might (he made a jab about them once and he’s into similar types of music)

I’m not really so much into prog metal save for Opeth (who I REALLY dig) and some other groups I have decent familiarity with (I had a friend try and get me into a host of death metal ages back hahah). I do like a lot of prog rock and miscellaneous experimental/psychedelic music though. Remember when I was tossing King Crimson song recommendations when you still had godsnmonsters?

I’d love to see Opeth live but idk who I’d go with ;-; because NO WAY am I taking my dad or another teenage girl to do something like that. Plus I don’t think they’re playing anywhere in Canada this year (this is mostly a European tour with one leg in the US, so my internet friend is going to see them and is super excited) Still Life’s my favourite, you? 🤔

I talk about a lot of bands, but yes I like King Crimson and Primus a lot. Crimson are pretty eclectic but I usually find with each incarnation of the band there’s always something interesting about them. My favourite “era” is problem their 70s material with John Wetton and Bill Bruford but they have so many good albums. And Primus are great and memorable fun, supposedly they’re great live too!

I know this was a LONG ramble but I’m still a little bummed no one noticed my Residents costume on here :C

Firstly, thanks for me here! It’s really nice to have the NC linked right on my sidebar hahah

The only Opeth friends I have are online only ;-; this summer I met this really cool music geek from NY and we were back and forth sharing a lot of awesome music with one another. He got me into checking out more death groups like Athiest and... Death which was really interesting going into blind. I know Heritage is (or at least was) a bit controversial with Opeth fans since that was when they started going a more conventional “retro prog” direction as opposed to their brand of melodeath but all the Opeth fans I know still really like their new stuff. I haven’t listened to all of their albums but I’m personally very fond of their material from the My Arms Your Hearse to Blackwater Park era.

Since we’re talking about both the Residents and Primus I feel the need to mention how much Les Claypool loves the former, haha. He’s done a bunch of Residents covers live and I think there’s two of them included on certain issues of Frizzle Fry? Anyway they’re a pretty interesting band regardless, and yeah those costumes are really neat. Idk if you’ve heard the Primus cover of this track but I feel it’s worth listening to the original regardless. (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AvJiyOPmsJs)

Yeah they’re different people! The fellow I went to the concert with goes to my school and we know each other well irl, he likes prog and folk rock hehe. The other prog friend who was showing me all these death metal groups lives in NY and is a good 3 years older than me!

And aaaaaa Mikael’s always seemed like a really humble dude, it’s so cool that he was sort of escorting you guys out in a way. Death are awesome and Mastodon have some cool stuff - aren’t they also the band from the intro to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie? 😳 Crack the Skye is cool and all but I will always remember them for that hahah

Do let me know what you think of the song! The Residents are kind of hard to place genre-wise; I suppose I’d call them electronic-based experimental avant-pop but they’re really just the Residents. Like they’re their own genre haha, if you’re familiar with Primus you might find the verse structure to be kind of similar too. And the music video I linked it incredibly freaky visual and composition-wise, it’s all very fascinating.
