Hello! I've looked around a bit and I'm still not sure about a couple of things...
I understand the answers may be subjective but I appreciate any insight!
1 achievements, getting top jobs, alchemy points. If we’re talking about alchemy points, then books become too expensive when they cost more than intelligence boosters. Expensive books don’t really have a ‘point’- they’re consumables and may have a limited supply, driving prices up.
2 depends on if you like battling enough to do it with more than one pet. It can help justify the costs of end game weapons if you’re not spending 750 million sP on a weapon only one pet will use.
Books: The highest level for generic reading to a single pet is 1,400 books. There are just over 500 books in regular shops, so to get the highest achievement you'll need to buy at least a few of the more expensive books if you want to get the highest achievement.
There are also quite a few achievements that request specific books and some of the books are very expensive. You can see those achievements by going to your achievement page, clicking on the pet->books and decide if those achievements are worth it to you.
The top 250 book reading pets are listed in the score list, the lowest is at 2090 books. You don't get anything for being on the list, other than pride, until you hit the top 10 (the lowest there is 2830). Being on the top 10 high score gets you either 15 or 25K each day you're on the list.
Finally, for every 16 intelligence your pet gets an alchemy point. Alchemy points (in this context) allow you to cast spells during battle. The more points you have, the more and better spells you can cast. Most battlers will say you simply can't have too many alchemy points.
Pet training: I have 16 pets and train them all. But I started out only training my main battle pet. There was a time where it was really good to train at least two good battle pets so you could get the 5th drops items more than once. However, they tanked that when they attached the better items to achievements instead. Now the very best, more profitable items, can only be acquired once no matter how many pets you battle with. I'd say, unless you are very much a fan of battling, its not really worth it to train more than one battle pet.
Still I train all of mine, so take that with a grain of salt. It takes a very long time to train the pets, so if you even have a little suspicion that you might eventually want to battle with multiple pets, do start now. Training early tiers is cheap, it can lead to better pet jobs, with more sP, so it won't hurt to train up a few in the beginning and later on if you decide battling isn't for you, they'll still profit from being able to get better jobs.

thank you!! Makes sense. Is it more of a personal goals thing for folks to read books that cost more than intelligence boosters? I haven't seen anything like "booktastic books" for Subeta.. yet!
Also makes sense :) so there's not, for example, a daily loot cap per pet I take it?
P.S. - your avatar is so strange, I love it 😂
ah thank you!! Wow, that is a LOT of books. I am interested in achievements, so I'll probably end up going for some of those specific book sets eventually :) I'm only just training up Cuca but I can definitely see the benefits of alchemy points / spells already.
Ohh, that's interesting about the achievement item drops! I'll probably stick to one for battling, but I've been training my pets up for different jobs (mostly for RPG/character purposes haha, probably not very profitable in the end). I assume the promotions will require higher stats so trying to be ready :)
thanks so much for the thorough info!!
Yeah, it's kind of like foods. I have a pet on the books high score list, and while it's something that I enjoy there's a point where the cost is just so high that it's better for me to spend the money on books and boosters for other pets that need the intelligence for battling.
No daily limit or cap, however your pet can only get the special 5th win loot once. Unless you adopt it out then adopt it back, but that's a bit risky and there's a 30 day transfer and battle cooldown. Some loot is tied to win count achievements, usually 5 or 10, so you can only get them once per account no matter how many pets you battle with. So battle away to your heart's content, but also try not to burn yourself out.
ah that's neat! Congrats on making the high score list :D It does seem like a huge undertaking when there are so many other tempting things to buy/collect on this site.
Hmmm! I'll have to experiment with a second battler to see what can drop more than once. I don't think I have it in me to be a top battler, but it would be nice to do more than Lv 1 battle quests and seasonal challengers :)
Another random Q: should I cash in EXP points as I get them? Is there a benefit to sP training first and using EXP later..?
yep, higher jobs need higher stats. You can see what stats you'll need for which job titles, and pay rates, in this Job Agency Guide and Discussion.
And yes, I have two pets who have specific job titles for RP/story reasons and they are both getting paid much less than they could be...oh well, its worth the sP hit for the fun.

thank you! I'll have a look through that board. Haha, I might regret the goofy jobs eventually but it is fun for now :D
The basic recipe for a battle pet is to log in every day, do all the battle quests you can do, use the experience to buy stats, and repeat until you're tier 13. If you keep with it, your pet will grow.
I like to save up to buy chunks of stats at once, but when you're starting out there's no real reason to not just spend it as you get it to try to squeeze in more wins faster if you want. The only reason you need to start out with sP training is because you need to build up some stats before you can start beating challengers. Otherwise you'd have to buy a bunch of stat boosters, which is faster but a lot more expensive.
