I've got three of them (a square bottle, a glass vase, and a triple neck klein bottle) and what do they do? I'm a little nervous to try them.

Using any of them on a pet will turn it into Common Experiment .

Feeding them just counts that item in your pets eaten foods list, going towards achievements and the high score table.
