Is it because everyone wants stuff from the new line to show up?

Because people are buying up the items that are slated to retire shortly. Plus they are in there anyway keeping an eye out for the new line, so even when there aren't new line items older stuff they don't already have gets bought up. This is a typical thing when a new line is released :).
