Can you choose experiments with the potion token?

I'm afraid not. Potions are for colors of pet species, and experiments are not colors but their own species.

The Loyalty Potion Totem only changes the color of your pet, not species.

For example, if someone wanted an Angelic Tigrean, the pet they plan to change would need to already to a Tigrean. They can't directly change their Bumbus into an Angelic Tigrean with a Loyalty Potion Totem.
