I (32F) live with my 62-year-old father, 59-year-old mother, 24-year-old brother, and 12-year-old-ish Shih-Tzu/Poodle mix. I also have a 30-year-old sister living at her in-laws with hubby, but I'm focusing on the family currently in the house. All of us have some sort of major struggle going on. Dad's issues are with recovery from a thyroidectomy 8-ish years ago and a bad back from wear and tear and age. My brother is about to start his second semester of college and is really overwhelmed thanks to ADHD-C and general anxiety over the rest of us. I've been trying to be helpful around the house with my parent's infirmities, but I am super overwhelmed thanks to being autistic.
Mom's struggle deserves her own paragraph, though, because boy, howdy has her health just tanked in the past year and a half. And it has nothing to do with Covid-19. Every day she has to take copious amounts of salt or she get's heart palpitations, and her blood pressure is still ridiculously low despite that. When she stands up, her heart rate skyrockets while the blood pressure dips and so she's basically been bedridden since she retired from her career as a pharmacist in October. She's been to 6 endrocrinologists to figure out if that particular system of the body is to blame. The last one she saw flat out told her that her condition had nothing to do with him, even though 1/3 of her pituitary gland is not working at all and her thyroid levels are way low. What a charmer. And that's on top of a lifetime of migraines. I don't think she's had a single day without a headache since she turned 16.
And yet, we haven't had any moment during these trying times where our finanacial resources ran dry, even though we had to buy a brand new car 2 weeks ago. Mom's work had disability insurance while it lasted (whole different set of crazy), she and Dad have always been saving, and, most importantly in my mind, they've always been full tithe payers as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, ie giving 10% of their income to God via the Church's administrative bodies. Tithes not only bless those who give them in very personal ways, but through them and other willingly given donations, the Church is able to feed and clothe the needy, build meetinghouses and temples, and more.
So yeah, the household is in the middle of some significant trials right now, but I have faith that we will get through it and come out the other side as better people and a stronger family.
P.S. I still envy the dog, though. He doesn't seem to have any worries at all.
