For a while I have been seeing people who seem active suddenly disappear from the site and it has left me wondering. When we choose to disable our accounts do they show up the same as an account frozen for other reasons? And what is the point of disabling an account? I don't remember why we added this feature.
It shows up as frozen there is no breakdown of it being for x reason. And people do it for a variety of reasons: mental break, health break, to ensure no one gets into their account while on leave.
Thank you for your reply. So basically it is a way to protect your account from hacking while you are on an extended vacation in reality.
I froze my account for a couple of weeks and found it an inconvenience more than anything else. I wasn't able to leave a message for my friends, it messed up posts I had going, and if I wanted to look at the site casually, I couldn't.
I'd say only freeze yourself if your extended vacation is going to be a long, long time or you think you might never come back. Also keep in mind, even if you freeze yourself, after a year of inactivity someone can take your username if they want to. That used to be true for pet names as well, but of course that's no longer a concern.
And also to take a break from Subeta. As Written said they couldn't see messages the forums . etc. It forces a very clear break from Subeta too which for some is necessary. Like during finals
Mostly I was asking because the way it is set up now makes me nervous. Because accounts that are 'Frozen' this way look exactly like accounts frozen for other reasons it leaves me feeling like you could get kicked from the site for no apparent reason, especially when the seemingly good citizens of Subeta just disappear. Though I do not have any business knowing why anyone is leaving even temporarily, it seems to me like a good idea for there to be a visible difference. Mostly to avoid confusion about how Subeta's rules are enforced though the longer I think about it the more reasons I see for a change.
Before I made a suggestion for a change though I wanted to clarify exactly how it worked instead of making an assumption. Later today I will probably post a suggestion that the system be changed. How is the part that will take a little more thought.
There is a lot of discussion about official freezing, self-freezing and the idea of distinguishing between the two on this Random question regarding iced players=no discussion rule. I don't think a suggestion was ever made about it, but I thought you might want to read up on it first and possibly link to that topic when you make your thread.
