I get that things come up and sometimes things don't work the way that way you want them to , but the way the green border is being handled is unfair.
It's unfair to change the requirements without telling anyone until after it's too late to do anything about it. It's unfair that people who felt secure in meeting the requirements in the first place had the rug pulled out from under their feet because it could have been in met in two days, even one day with a GA.
It's not the player's fault that programming issues came up, so why are the users who are punished for it? It's not just a border, it's a trust issue at this point.
And if this was addresses in the news comments? Oops, I guess, but news comments are known to be not as a traceable and I have never been a fan of updates being done through them.
I totally agree.
Keith said something in the comments about how the table was tracking the wrong thing and they're looking into other solutions, but that was it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the blue border last year was given out for just 1 quest participation. Given this snafu, it seems reasonable to make the requirements for the green border this year the same, and if you want to bump up the requirements next year, then you can do it then.
Personally, the avatar borders don't really affect me. I already have the gold one, and I think the green one is ugly and will probably never use it. But I'm all about fairness. If you make a promise, you shouldn't renege on that promise.
Inb4 someone says that the border will lose its value.
The border already lost its value in this ordeal. It should be fairly distributed.

Requirements should be lowered to 2 days, as it's the minimum number of days needed to accomplish the goal without a GA.
Subeta never really valued "rarity" and "prestige" anyway.
I'm just curious -- where should those updates be done?
I agree that this isn't great (and said as much... in the news comments ;)) and I'm sorry -- we're going to work on rolling it out more fairly to everyone, should have an update today or tomorrow. Thanks!

"The border situation isn't great." Sounds like a politician in my home state, lmao.
I agree it's somewhat messy- maybe it should just be given to all participants again? Blue and green both seem pretty common colors and that would simplify the situation and appease everybody, and the issue can be corrected for the next one.
I didn't have a problem seeing comments in the news post about it, but I don't think that staff post section includes news comments does it? If someone is looking for staff posts about it I can see it getting missed, especially once the post is over 50 comments. maybe you can either post the facts in the news post itself, or link to a thread with the programming stuff if it's going to be shared at all? Not sure how much you'd wanna do with sharing errors and stuff. I feel like some of this stems from staff members here being perfectly happy to share more info than I've seen staff share on other sites (specifics about errors, for example) so I don't really have expectations, I'm used to sites being more of a black box than Subeta is. I feel like the news post itself should just have whatever relevant information and give a heads up if there will be an update down the road, and another news post can be made with any necessary updates.
@/Keith I personally like forum posts for updates. It's easier to link directly (instead of having to stalk all the comments or ctrl+f staff), I can find it in the admin posts in case I need to reference it later, and Staff can post more than once in a row, so it's easier to follow updates.
People might not come back to a news post they already read if it got updated and it's easy to lose something in the news comments. Sometimes I don't even bat an eye when Staff posts in the news comments because I find it's more engagement than important updates.
But that's just me. I can always make another topic elsewhere for more ideas.
Maybe include any relevant comments in the news post and make them stand out. Then push out one of those event notifications that the news post has an important edit. I don't bother to check back on the comments for any changes or that the original news post has been edited once i've read it and moved on.
I.E. Add this to the news post:

I want to apologize about the confusion, it was totally my fault when we started the quest-a-thon for not double checking how the scoring was tabulated in the database. It adds to a total score (what you saw on the news page) and logs that the user has done the quest.
The table that it logs to is a database table called quest_a_thon which had a unique index on "date" and "userid", which meant that it was constrained to only create one row each day (and not throw an error, just quietly fail).
I'm going to circle up with Amber tomorrow to figure out the best way to do the avatar borders, but again, great job at completing the quest-a-thon and we'll make sure you're all taken care of! [/box]
yeah it's actually bullshit that it's being handled this way. i hate to be a complainer but things like this keep. happening. why is nothing tested beforehand? why is it always the users who get the short end of the stick when programming issues come up? i hate questing. it's tedious and i personally do not care about the individual quest rewards. i did all 100 in the first day and thought i was good because that's what we were told. to move the goalposts AFTER it's way too late to do anything about it is extremely unfair. if they had told us halfway through the event "whoops, it isn't working the way we thought it would so we have to change the requirements" would have been fine. people would have understood. but after the event is already over? how is that fair?
like i said before, things like this keep happening. it's getting extremely hard to forgive.
...in the news maybe? like a new admin post?? where people can see it, that is the WORSE place possible Imagine having to read through a ton of comments on a news post to maybe find an explanation // solution // staff post, not knowing how often to check back
unlike last year's complaints about the avatar border, i actually agree that the way this one is being given out is unfair... i feel bad for saying it, but if the requirements were said to be one thing, and then changed to something else after it was too late to earn... that's kind of a perfect example of something being unfair, isn't it?
it doesn't upset me that there was a programming issue, stuff happens. but what caused the decision to award it for 3 days of quests, instead of 2? since it's been pointed out that you could make the original 100 quest goal in only 2 days? i mean honestly that's the real issue.
as for where updates should be posted... i don't really keep checking the comments of news posts i've already read. news comments feel unorganized somehow and harder to read through. i prefer either new news posts or something in the forums. just my thoughts.
I feel this change is utterly unfair. I get errors and screw-ups, fine it happens, but find a way to fix it so that people who specifically put in the effort to meet the goals you set get the border.
Even if that means everyone who quested a single time gets the border. I get that you wanted people to "earn" it, that users complained that it wasn't fair for people who completed 1 quest vs. people who completed 155 quests daily get the same prizes. So you switched it up. That's good. But it didn't work and people who put in the work to do 100 quests when they might have skipped the event completely or maybe done a single quest should get the border they in fact earned!
Especially since people who didn't "earn" the border will qualify for it! Someone, for example who did a single quest every day - not nearly 100 quests, but under the current system they get the border.
This doesn't affect me at all (I did all 155 quests every day), and it still makes me very angry at how unfair it is.

I'm going to lock this up, we appreciate the feedback, and have said we're going to address it. I agree that it was handled poorly, and ultimately we should have held off instead of pushing out with 3 days.
There will be an update on this ASAP.
I was asking sincerely for where you'd like to see the information, I'm seriously doing my best here.
