i've never really experienced the loss of a beloved pet like this before, and i feel like i've been robbed of something unspeakably precious. and idk what to do with myself. i've cried a lot, but beyond that.
does anyone have any advice on how to deal with losing a beloved pet, especially while they're still young? ❤️❤️
I'm sorry for your loss. I haven't lost a pet while they were necessarily young, but my most recent cat passed away unexpectedly early, as in we assumed he would have 5 or so more years with us.
In my experience, I thought about him and cried for him most of the day, every day, for a long time after it happened. Everything reminded me of him, and I would get mad at myself or feel guilty when I would allow myself to relax and have fun like watching a funny video or something. I would be laughing and suddenly the angry feeling of "he's dead and you're laughing" would come. It seems irrational now but it happened.
All I can say is that it gets easier, or the pain slowly fades. You will reach a point where your pet stops consuming your thoughts and you can have fun again, and when you think of them, it may stop sending you to tears but instead you feel happy to remember the good times you shared with them. I lost my cat in January of 2020 and now I can talk about him without crying and remember him fondly.
I don't know your exact situation but I guess my advice is to just let yourself mourn and take the time to recover, however long it may be. Try to take peace in knowing you did what you could for them and that you tried to give them a good life.
I've had to do that. I hope you feel better soon, and that your new dog, if you have one, helps you do that. (Sorry if stuff previously said is asked if something, Forums.are lagging a bit)
OMG so sad :'(, im really sorry for your loss, i seriously relate to you because i too lost my doggy the last sunday :'(.
