Question about custom overlays!

I don’t wanna break the bank with spending 500 CSC just in case it’s not what I wanted!
Could someone explain to me what a custom overlay for your pet is? If an example could be provided, extra gold star!!!

His custom overlay looks like this:
His adorable and snuggly art appears everywhere on site, from that thumbnail, to the battle colosseum, to the front page if he ever wins spotlight.
Here's his profile. The pet art there only shows up there because it's coded into the profile to replace the default or custom image. This is limited, but offers some neat flexibility: I can have a cool custom overlay that I think looks badass during battle quests, and then have art on a default profile that better suits his character. (or is just old and I never bothered to redo or change it)
If you want your custom art to show up everywhere your pet does, spend the 500csc. If you only care about it showing on the pet's profile, just code it in.
