accounts no longer are cleared. pet names and user names used to be cleared at 10 months frozen, and 1 year inactive. - Correct me if I am wrong. I'm not sure if the amount of time has changed.

This news post about unique pet names also mentions that usernames will still be cleared on a regular basis: https://subeta.net/news.php?act=comments&newsid=20160
I believe that the account must be inactive for at least a year. I think that frozen users are generally up for clearing sooner.
It's 12 months for both frozen and non-frozen users.
10 month limit for frozen accounts makes no sense because people sometimes self-freeze when they go on hiatus and I don't remember any mention of this being changed when the petnames became non-unique.
[edit]The "This account will be eligible for clearing on MM/DD/YYYY at 3:00 pm. Please note: Due to a glitch, it may clear one day early or late." message pops up at 10 months. That might be confusing some folks, but it's 12 months inactivity for both active and frozen accounts.
Disregard, I am a dummy. cleared it up below!
From the FAQs: Now instead, if a user is inactive for a year or frozen for 10 months, their username and pet names will be available for anyone to use. (the exception is for users that passed away, the username will stay)
This now only applies to usernames since pet names do not clear anymore! The contents of the account and the account itself no longer clears as it used to a long time ago.

Huh! That's very good to know, thank you! I do find it a bit odd that it was changed, but it's good that the number is the same for both frozen and non-frozen accounts after all.
This got me wondering: does this apply to users who were frozen for breaking the rules too? It's not longer a year until you can register for a new account, but 10 months?
You still have to wait a year to create a new account. The 10 months only applies to the username clearing. And it has been that way for a lot longer than the non-unique names. I would even say it has been AT LEAST since we changed to daily clearings, but maybe longer.

Good to know, thank you very much for clarifying about both the inactivity and the tidbit about frozen users! I could have sworn that it was a year of inactivity up until recently because every time I heard someone ask about it before, the general answer was always "your account goes inactive if you don't log in for a year".๐คจ Huh. The more you know!
, why do they just stay there in la-la land instead of getting wiped? I'm just wondering what the significance of keeping it around is?
I love that if someone has passed on their stuff stays in memoriam!
