i think my partner sent nothing yesterday so i just want to know if i missed something? and i'd really like to know what it looks like when someone does send you something or send a message. because this is my first time using mm.

When your MM sends you something, you'll get a notification on your sidebar saying something akin to "Your mysterious melody has sent you (item)" and said item will just be in your inventory.

I also had a MM that didn't send me anything the whole day even after I sent them something, so idk if some people just sign up to get stuff or if they just forget or what lol

I've noticed that a lot this year. I usually send a bunch of stuff before I go into work and then a few items when I'm out. This year though the people signing up for MM only to receive stuff is kind of annoying but it comes with the territory I guess.
