Coming back after a long hiatus to find the new naming mechanics. Played around with renaming some of my old pets but I don't know if I'd rather have better names or keep my now kinda irreplaceable legacy names?
Like sure I have the og Alt here, but if 100 other pets can be named Alt without the legacy tag, does it even really matter? I mean I've always wanted the name Joy so I renamed a pet to Joy... A name I couldn't have gotten a year ago because it was in a permanent home (I think I don't remember lol) so idk lol
What's you're feelings about it? Just curious to hear!
I will say I came back because I got a friend interested, and she's hyped that she can name pets everything she'd ever want, so I will say this is definetly a huge win for new users.
I like legacy names. They are a tribute to the useres that worked hard to get some of the more common names. I have some of that names it took me years to get them. At least now I have some proove that I did hold the one an only kind of name when names still were unique. Might not be important for everyone but for me it is a thing.
I also still look for good legacy names cause some can also work as last names which gives some cool options like I have Marcus Aurel (Normal name Marcus, Legacy Name: Aurel) , William Krieger (Normal name William, Legacy Name:Krieger) or Clint Burton (Normal name Clint, Legacy Name: Burton).
If you really dislike a legacy name you can delete it or adopt it out to someone else cause now you are not limited anymore by naming your pets.

Legacy names are just an additional line to hide on my profiles, so I'd rather adopt non-legacy pets.
I care more about legacy names than I want to. Even though I could have any name I want, I filled my last pet slot with a legacy name from the pound, just because it looks fancy on their profile. I have been very unenthusiastic about Subeta as a whole and my pets in specific and with the new name system in place, I realized that I just hoarded names like it was an obligation. For example the name "Josi" which I had picked up from the pound way back in 2012 - I used to be very excited about it, but truth is, I've long fallen out of love with it and just kept it to make sure I wouldn't regret giving it up. Now my Josi is called Josephine and another pet, Ronni, is called Veronika and I love their legacy names and the fact that they now go by less cutesy names. My pet Cieran could theoretically now have the name I always intended her to have ("Kieran"), but "Cieran" is her legacy and because of that I like it way more than I used to.
I'm not only into legacy names, though. I have renamed a few of my pets that I've had for a long time and though they do still have their legacy names, those are hidden on their profiles and will most likely be cleansed eventually since they are very feminine while the pets in question are all boys now. I probably care more about sentimental value (e.g. I have had the pets for a long time) or their stats than their names. But since I absolutely don't care about pet IDs, legacy names would be a good thing to look for should I ever plan to adopt again.
I like the legacy names, but I also like that I could finally get that "impossible" name I wanted for one pet. I'm really happy with how the site handled the change to non unique names, with a nod to the original owners of "desirable" names.
i deleted all of my legacy names as soon as the option became available asdfghjkl i just really didn't care at all about having them 😂
the only one i kinda regret yeeting is [pet not found]' because his legacy name was rat and that's...... kinda cute ngl
I wasn't really a fan of the switch to non-unique in the first place in the beginning though I pretty much just decided to work with it since it had already been decided.
In any case, I personally did nothing with my existing legacy pets since they all originally had plans for their names, even the ones with alternate spellings, and I had no reason nor desire to change their names to something else.
That said, all my pets are legacy, including any newer ones I've adopted since the switch and, at least for the foreseeable future I'm personally sticking to legacy names. Also, adding in for the record that I don't really care at this point if others have my names since what's done has been done. I'm actually kind of glad that people who might of wanted names I had prior to the switch now have a chance to do so.
not a fan of the change personally, I like names being unique, but it’s not the end-all for me. I’ll just stick to legacy pets, but for those who appreciate the change, im glad you finally get some names you’ve been desiring.
i immediately yeeted a bunch of legacy names i had bc like most of them weren't the names i ever really wanted lol so BYEEEEEEE now legacy name is just a line of code to hide on profiles
I like legacy names but I think it's just extra stuff. I sure am glad that every name's free though. I can just go all out without feeling sad. :)

I personally always picked pets for IDs and names. Half the time I had a great name and bad ID and was too cheap to fix it, or had a great ID with a name I really couldn't work. Now I have a bunch of high ID pets that I invested in which sucks, but I have the legacy name which I guess is cool? But what's even better is I can rename any of my pets completely FREE. This gives me more sp for overlays or other important pet things. The downside for me is that I really liked having unique names because they were special. There's something about having the only one of something that just feels, good. (Until you wanted to adopt that one amazing name and got rejected)
From a site stand point, moving forward it was a great decision because it will draw in new players. I know one of the biggest drawbacks to Subeta was the unique pet names because no one could really flourish creativitely because they had to tip toe around the fact someone else owned the name they wanted. I have my drawbacks to it, but I know I'll get over it.
I like legacy names enough, but it turns out I'm not as married to them as I expected to be. I'm still very reluctant to let go of my names though out of personal preference because I have a problem, but since I have several real word names I've found that I quite like having their actual character name but then the legacy name displayed under them. I have Migrant as a legacy name which works really well with the new name Witcher that I gave him. It's a nice little description thing, I've found.
I really like the naming changes even though I was resistant to them at first. I’d like to adopt out some of my legacy names and create new pets with names I thought I’d never be able to use.

Meh.
I know for a fact that many of the "legacy names" I have, I wasn't the first person to use. I was just lucky enough to grab it after someone left Subeta for a while, and not even in one of those mass-name clearing sprees we used to have either. So being "rewarded" for having the "original" legacy name feels extremely weird and uncomfortable to me, and I'm glad we have the option to remove them.
Even in cases where I actually was the first person to create an original name, I just...don't care that much? If I'm pleased with the name, that matters to me more than a title.
I've kept all my legacy names, though I hid some of them on pet profiles because they didn't fit aesthetically. I didn't rename any of my pets either, so their names still match. I like having the legacy names as proof that I had the original name, like mentioned.
I thought I preferred low IDs over legacy names, but now that I have a few legacy names that I really like, I'm suddenly thinking that I would prefer to have some legacy names than low IDs...I foresee my characters/pets in the future having a combo of low IDs and no legacy names and legacy names with higher IDs.
I'm glad both are out there for the people who care about each, though.
That's...actually a very good point, wow.
I always felt like unique names were predatory as hell, because you were literally hoping that the userbase would shrink. I never was comfortable with that, and it felt like...some people were openly hoping that others would quit, and that's not good business.
Goodness, nevermind the introduction of CWs - I still feel like nonunique names are the best change on the site period
I think the legacy names were as good a compromise as we could have hoped; it displays the names that people worked hard to get, but also allows people to have more flexibility when creating a pet. I will likely only look for legacy names/low ids in the future, but really that's nothing new for me.
A werewolf? One day Dr. Torrie
I love the legacy names I currently have, but I don't really care to display them. Yet, I also don't want to erase them? I like knowing they're there as if they're kind of a nod to the past. For a couple of my pets though I've already changed their names from their legacy name.
I think it was a good compromise for the folks who didn't want unique names. In a way, it allows them to still have the "original" name because I know that was important for some folks.
But wow is it such a relief that I can just use any name I want now. <3
I'm rather indifferent about legacy names. If I get to keep a good legacy name, I'll keep it. I'm totally fine with pets without legacy names or with rather "bad" legacy names which I will clear. I wasn't keen on non-unique names in the beginning, but I guess at some point I realized that most of the "good" RW names I grabbed over the decade actually meant nothing to me besides the effort, if I was honest with myself. I was just forced to use whatever was left, and then, try to fit a character onto that name, especially for fan pets. Oh, boy, using RW names for fan pets were like a nightmare to me lol, which can finally be gone.
