Since the search page is offline, I can't see a way to check if a name is taken or not. Any ideas? I was going to adopt something but adoption is empty and I figure the only other option is to create something.

You could use the path subeta.net/pets/INSERTNAMEHERE to see if a pet with the legacy name exists, but because pet names are no longer unique there’s no need to search before creating a pet.

Yeah you can apparently now name one Bailey today but decide in a month to rename it Bitters and it no longer matters. Except apparently you can't have ALL your pets have the same name. So you couldn't rename all the pets you own to Bitters. And renames no longer cost anything other than waiting the right time to rename. Anyone owed names from the old system still get a free rename thankfully that doesn't count against the new system.

When the search system comes back I think the idea is when you search a name the FIRST one is supppsed to be the original/first named that. But I know they have it off right now so we'll see when its back what it'll do.

I do still think however if someone makes the FIRST time of a name it should get the legacy tag since essentially thats what they put in place for the pre new system names.

So that is why I can't search the names! okay

and yea, why can't newly created pets of a newly existing name have legacy in its title?????? thats crappy

I think it’s crappy too. I’ve created pets where the name wasn’t taken at all after the change. I was also hoping that instead of a title “legacy pet” that all legacy pets would get a trophy on their profile

It was done to apparently appease people who spent RL money to change names before the switch.

If you wish to adopt legacy names there is a forum group that you should join, # legacy.

I’ve spent RL money to change names over the years. That doesn’t bother me (I saw a lot of users say there should’ve been a trophy?). I also got rid of a lot of pets with legacy names, so I don’t need more lol (;

I was thinking of advertising for a legacy pet since all my existing ones were. I decided to create a pet to zap for fun and TC slots and then put it in adoptions so someone else could have a nice pet. I made the mistake of making something I liked and making it genderless, which put paid to zapping.

So guess I have my first non legacy pet now lol.

You should be able to use a "+" sign as a replacement for the blank space. I think most browsers will also automatically substitute it if you just have the space in the URL.

However, I'm noticing that a recent pet that I've adopted's name isn't showing up at all. I've had him for a week or so now and his old name (which I thought wasn't a legacy name since it didn't show on his profile) and his new name don't show in the search, even though the names were unique.

Legacy names have nothing to do with whether they are unique or not. Only pets that were created prior to the non-unique name change on July 26, 2020 are able to have legacy names. Any pet created after that time, no matter how unique their name, will not have a legacy name.

In addition, pets are able to have their legacy names deleted in the Bathhouse pools. So there will be some pets born prior to July 26, 2020 who have no legacy names because they were deleted.
