hey sorry not sure if this is allowed but i've seen other ppl talking about neopets and i want to mostly affirm how much greater subeta is in pretty much every way possible

i have my neopets username in my profile, because subeta is actually a cool site that is enjoyable to be on

i mentioned subeta in a private message on neopets, not even the full word, and received a warning for talking about off-site places. (mind you, it's totally fine to talk about facebook, because neopets has a facebook. but god forbid you mention a different pet site!!!!! meanwhile subeta literally could not care less about their "competition" being mentioned)

i messaged the person back to laugh at how i had gotten the warning and to say that their site is garbage and "over THERE i can put my neo username in my profile"

received another warning from TNT for profanity

basically tl;dr sometimes i don't even know what keeps me there (nostagia is a hell of a drug) when i come over to subeta and see people allowed to talk about, you know, THE WORLD and treated like adults and actually listened to. it's just great here. yall are great

Oof, yeah, Neopets completely dropped the ball on converting their site and policies to a new internet. Back in the day it almost made sense as things like that were new and pet sites were kind of fighting for players but now? Nah. And their profanity filter was always wack since it would filter parts of words (like you couldn't say "grape" at one point).

I left Neo for good when I had bought a year of premium when they made it super cheap and at the time I was playing every single day. As the date of renewal got closer I made sure (checking at least three times) that my subscription was NOT set to auto-renew. Lo and behold my card was charged the regular price for a year of premium and I couldn't afford that (it was like $100) and I was even really playing at the time. I contacted them and never heard back (the usual, their support is garbage) so I went through Paypal and they refunded me immediately.

I gave away all my NP, items and what pets I could and quit in disgust. I checked my account from time to time and for another year I technically still had premium even though I'd been refunded so good going Neo. Never used any of it, though.

I checked Neo again recently and OOF the site looks so bad! I opted in to the new layout just to check some things out but some of the features didn't work at all (I wanted to change my font but there was no option to) and I couldn't find a way to get back to the old layout lol Every time I tried to go to a page that should exist it would redirect me back to the new layout.

I'm done with Neo for good. Subeta is SO much better. Like yeah there are issues but we're allowed to actually discuss things.

unfortunately i definitely agree with this...i want to like neopets so bad bc of the nostalgia factor, but the site overall is intensely user unfriendly (esp if you want to use the forums) due to them wanting the entire experience to be completely family-friendly i guess? it's really bizarre, all the different things you can get warned for (like just mentioning that you're married, for example. ok neopets)

i used to be more active when one of my partners played, but that's not the case now so i'm just. not lol

I totally agree, I got banned for "botting" when all i did was press F5 in the money tree over and over to see new items and I did it manually. This was earlier this year so there went my 400m neopoints I spent 8 years hoarding, I wish neo would get with the times, while I can appreciate wholesome things, neopets it almost totalitarian with what you can say and do. They will never get a new kid/teen fanbase because kids these days would rather watch edgy stuff on tiktok than be punished for saying "booty" or whatever. I have soooo much nostalgia for Neo but it is a lost cause at this point. I just logged into an alt to see the beta changes Julian was talking about in the second post and HOLY CRAP it looks atrocious.

I'm also a "blow-in" from Neopets. I used to play every day, mostly to collect plushies and toys, buy books for my pet and try to make money. I also hoard stuff because for some reason I love doing that. Now, I just go on for Halloween, Easter, Christmas (advent calendar) and Altador Cup (Shenkuu!).

Here on Subeta, it's so much better in so many ways from earning achievements (which I love in games), personalising my human avatar and seeing the beautiful avatars of other Subetans, checking out the gorgeous pet pages, and I have gotten very somewhat addicted to restocking which is way easier than NP.

Also the "freer" forums.

Oh, and a couple of days ago, I learned that for around 5 years, Neopets was majority-owned by the Church of Scientology and a few of the characters are based on Scientologists.

I used to spend a lot of money there but I'll never go back. Fortunately, someone there was able to steer me over here before I quit entirely.

Edit: Well, that wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I thought I was going to find out there was a bunch of hidden subliminal messaging in the game or something. I don't even remember those characters, "the Three" or whatever, and apparently they were created to make fun of weird office staff or something, not promote anything. The worst thing was the embedded advertising (McDonald's et al.) but I never found that subtle or persuasive. Turns out the best years of Neopets occurred when it was run by Scientologists, how odd...it really just went downhill when Viacom bought it.

I got locked out of my account! Years and years ago. Someone had gone in and changed my email at one point, I changed it back and continued playing like la dee daa, and later on I couldn't log in at all. They have never gotten back to me, oh well.

Kind of good to let things you're nostalgic about stay where they are anyway, and not watch the magic die out.

Also nice to be able to say whatever you want here. I do miss the Beauty Contest though, where you draw a picture of your pet and advertise it for votes each week.

They never get back to anyone it seems. They kluged my accounts ages ago, and never responded to any of my tickets or E-mails. I miss my mullet-mice (Xweetocks), but among many other issues, like arbitrarily changing the site rules mid-stream that whole main/side account thing just to have more that 4 pets was a total pain to deal with. They prob' froze me cause one of my pets was named Hellraser666, from before they decided "Hell" was a swear word.

Last I checked my neopets my account was frozen for no reason. I wasn't even looking to get back into it, I just wanted to look up my old pets for nostalgia's sake, but now I can't even do that. Oh well. I started playing neopets back in 2002, and it taught me a lot about how virtual markets work, made me learn html/css, and gave me an appreciation for character creation and development in a fun (mostly) and safe (mostly) environment. I also saw the first porn I'd ever seen in my young life on neopets, so take that as you will, LOL.

I first started playing neopets in 2002 and subeta in 2005ish and would go back and forth. Now I'm trying to get back into Neo for the nostalgia factor but they make it so hard. There's no art community there anymore, the pages take FOREVER to load even though daily traffic is way down, they're dependent on flash for the customization feature, and everyone is obsessed with the UC. Also, the economy is so messed up I don't know how any new players make money. I'm finally making money after years because my account is old enough to profit from food club bets. I do not have high hopes that Neo will last long past this December.

you worded this so perfectly ;; when i was young, i loved neopets. it was a refuge from the endless bullying i faced in real life and during those difficult early teen years i found a (somewhat) safe space online. i later migrated to subeta and neopets became a childhood relic. i look back on it fondly but i'd never play these days -- i don't even have an account as far as i know.

all i can say is ^ this lol... i learned (basic) html/css because i loved pet pages so much!

but i soon outgrew neopets, whereas i feel that subeta has matured with me and though i've been through hiatuses and ups and downs here, subeta still provides a creative outlet and a nice community to enjoy.

I used to work for the guy who's currently making their exclusive special event pendants, and honestly:

1. they're overpriced
2. I'm not surprised they don't match the actual pet item image

oh wow this thread blew up! hey y'all! glad to hear your enjoyment of subeta and I'm sorry that you all had similar poor experiences with how it is/was run. in light of the complete dumpster fire that is the charity corner 2020 event, I especially reflect on how the "oh tnt is understaffed and underpaid" excuses fall flat when you look at what subeta is continuously capable of

Hi, yeah, like I said, I wasn't really aware of that at the time. I would have been ok with them deleting the pet and explaining why, but I really think freezing my whole account was unnecessary (and their accusations were pretty unprofessional too). Von Braun was a director at NASA and worked on films about space travel with Disney. Like it or not, he ended up being an important figure in American history. There wasn't a lot of discussion about his shady past until somewhat recently. I didn't "name a pet after a Nazi" (at least, that was not my intent)...I named a pet after a rocket engineer.

Edit: Anyway, no, it wasn't a great idea, but I assure you it was only an ignorant mistake on my part and not done to be offensive or edgy or anything. I just think the way they handled it was way over the top.

I'm aware of his history and his contributions, but understand as a Jewish person I am not able to divorce that from his past and involvement with the Nazi regime and concentration camps.

I get that it doesn't speak to your personal character or beliefs, and TNT obviously handles issues with little care and awareness, but I would probably consider that trying to convince people (particularly people who may be affected by the holocaust) that it's actually cool bc he was a great scientist who did great things is not a great move
