Chasing Elwood (Random Event with Pet Participation)

I miss riding with Elwood in his van. During that site event in 2016 on Omen Islands he appeared in his pizza van, and drove us to the top of the mountain. That was amazing. I became an instant fan of his and want to see him appear more frequently.
My suggestion is that we have him appear randomly, perhaps once a week, or only on Wednesday (colloquially known as "hump day"), where we have the option to send our pet after him. Our active pet would either automatically start to chase him, or there would be an option to follow Elwood. Your pet follows along and updates you on their progress. At each notification there could be a random pizza slice thrown at our pets. This could be either just a text notification, or pizza found in our inventory (similar to the random event where pies are thrown at us). After a time our pet catches up to him and Elwood rewards them for their perseverance. The reward could be a choice between a pet stat increase, or to eat a harder to find food item, or read a rare book. If a food or book item is selected, it is immediately fed/read to the pet, where it would appear in their "foods eaten" or "books read" list. This would be to prevent having something worth so much from making its way into shops and throwing off the economy or value of rarer items.
As an example we would see something like this:
Your active pet has spotted Elwood driving by in his van. Follow him? (yes) (no)
OR
Elwood is driving by, send (pick a pet) after him!
(5 minutes later) Your pet has followed Elwood to the Omen Islands, he noticed that he was being followed, and has tossed an Eyeball Pizza Slice at your pet! (5 minutes later) Elwood has stopped by Shadowglen, before your pet can figure out what he's up to, he's driving away! (5 minutes later) Elwood pulls his van into a parking lot in Centropolis, he tells your pet that they are a skilled tracker but he has some super secret business in town. In order to stop your pet from following, he offers one of the following: (pet stat increase), (book), (food).
My pet are in the lodge, technically, they couldn't be eligible to eat anything.
A lot of foodbooks could stand being devalued, tbh, so having Elwood give us the actual item is fine. I'd hate to have my casual Gourmand pet get something expensive added to his eaten list, while that wouldn't be a priority for me.
If I could sell the item, I could make someone who does treat this as a priority happy.

This might be a good way to repurpose Free Gifts from Elwood Day in previous years, I don't think there's currently any other way to get them aside from being really lucky at the Free Shop? I don't think they've ever been rereleased in the Crystal Shop or anything.
