I am interested in buying the HP Deskjet 3755 printer, however, I am wondering about the scanner. Since I would often be scanning scraps of paper, would it feed through?

Has anyone attempted to scan scraps of paper before? Does it feed through, how does the outside area show?

I haven't owned these and am by no means a printer expert, but I figure if you're scanning scraps, it would be less risky to invest in a flatbed scanner+printer combo instead of a scanner that takes paper inserts.

If cost is an issue with these models, refurbished electronics are usually discounted, as well as used ones, though I wouldn't always trust a secondhand seller. You might also wait for large item sales like black friday?

It's more of a size thing. The HP Deskjet 3755 is really compact. =)

I don't have one of these, but I always highly advise against inkjet printers of any kind. They might be a cheap upfront cost, but the cost in the long run is going to be extremely annoying, especially if you don't print often. Inkjet cartridges seem to dry out over time and are deliberately designed to waste ink so that you have to buy it more often. If you take the cartridge out, the scanner might just refuse to work until you put a suitably full cartridge in again (my old printer was like this). And the multi-color cartridges need to be replaced when a single color runs out, which I personally just find infuriating, but even moreso when all you want to do is use the scanner.

I highly recommend a laser printer. I bought my Brother HL-L2300D laser printer 3-4 years ago. It's a compact model with no fancy features - it only prints, and only in black and white so do note that this particular model wouldn't meet your scanning needs at all. That said: regular price was about $100 but I waited to buy mine during a Black Friday sale, which made it something like 40-50% of the original cost. During this time, it has been used for my college classes, my wife's college classes, and my business to print out invoices, packing slips, and shipping labels for 300+ orders. Despite all of this use, it has required zero maintenance, caused zero frustration, and I've only purchased a toner cartridge ONCE since I bought it for a grand total of $55. I can't even imagine how much I would have spent on an inkjet printer in that amount of time, but I'm sure it would be hundreds, if not thousands. As an added bonus, when I purchased the new toner, Brother included a pre-paid shipping label so that I could just send back the old toner cartridge for recycling at no cost to me! So unlike inkjets, I didn't have to try to figure out where to take empty cartridges for recycling or feel bad about just throwing them in the trash to be sent to a landfill.

My previous printer was an all-in-one inkjet and it worked for a few years but wasted ink like nobody's business. I felt like I was constantly buying ink for even the smallest amount of paper and eventually, it had all kinds of annoying technical problems that rendered the scanner useless (and eventually the printer too). I will never, ever, go back to inkjet printers. I'm not sure what the best options are in terms of all-in-one laser printers for you but I think that even if you have to buy something less compact at a higher upfront cost, it will be more than worth it to just not have to deal with ink cartridges.

Personally I'd recommend just shopping around for compact Brother all-in-one printers and then read reviews while you wait for a great sale.

I'm seconding .

If you don't want to invest in a printer like that, I'd recommend getting it secondhand, as people are getting rid of printers all of the time. Because inkjet printers suck. No reason to spend more money than you have to on something like that.

The look of the printer and the model sounds familiar. Are you looking for a flatbed printer that's all-in-one (scanning AND printing) within a certain price range? If so, I'm sure we could help you out.
