i hope this is the correct place for this!! but when switching a genderless pet's gender with a gender berry, it automatically defaults the pet to male. could we have an option to choose which gender i'd like to make my genderless pet, so i don't have to get double the gender berries? just a simple: "Which gender would you like this pet to be? Male or Female".

Just wanted to check in on this and see if it has been implemented. If not, I hope that it will be implemented soon. :)

Not implemented and probably won't be implemented soon, with the size of our backlog. It is unfortunately kind of complicated to implement and I am not even sure if it's possible yet in the current system for how items like that work. But if it makes you feel better, staff would be in support of this suggestion, just not sure about feasibility.

One thing we could implement sooner though, if people would like this, is to have it randomly change to male or female, instead of defaulting to male. It would be nice to remove the "male as default" from it, and then you'd at least get a 50/50 chance of getting the gender you wanted, instead of always having to use two berries if you wanted female instead. What does everyone think of this idea?

[edit] I mean random for genderless pets only - it would still work the same otherwise!

I think that might be better than nothing. At least then, if you wanted to change a genderless pet to female, you had a chance of it working the first time and not needing an extra berry. :)

It would mean that those who want male would now have some uncertainty, but I guess that just kind of evens things out.

Reflect that it's random in the price, so it's potentially cheaper depending on how lucky you are. Then I would support a fifty=fifty chance change.

Maybe it's time to retire the Gender Berry and have a Male-Berry and Female-Berry - the Gender Berry could transform into either item.

So actually it was pointed out that the Official FAQ says it should change it to a random gender, which implies that's how it's already supposed to work and if it's always changing to male maybe that is a glitch? I will check with on whether a fix needs to be done for this.

Huge agreement here. It's annoying to have to buy two of these things to get a female pet whenever I pick up a genderless pet, because every time I've done it, it always defaults to male.

I'd rather have either separate "change to male" and "change to female" berries (either as a bought thing, or a transform thing), which would be a definite answer but would add another item, or have it be truly random so I only have to spend the extra chunk of sP half the time. Both options would be great.

Considering a lot of people accidentally feed their pet gender berries rather than using it on them (unless this has been changed?) I wonder if it might be worth thinking of... using an "npc" to change your pets gender? It doesn't have to be an npc specifically, but even something like a magical spring. I just thought of it since that's a way we can remove legacy names.

It could be an sP sink still and I don't know if the programming would be any different/more complicated but maybe a new method would be easier than changing an old one?

This has been changed. It now very explicitly says "Change gender: Petname" and "Feed to Petname". I think the feed to still comes first, though.

Still, I like the idea of an NPC or spring changing the gender. Maybe put it in Peka Park - that spot on the map should be given more reasons to exist. :)

Changing the way gender changes are done would be a lot more confusing than it's worth, imo - it's EXTREMELY USER UNFRIENDLY towards users that come back after a hiatus - and would make the current gender berries completely useless. They're a better SP sink the way they are now.

I still think that making a Berr-he and a Berr-she would work - making the Gender Berry transformable for people who want the random option still and giving gourmand two more food items.

If the gender berry is random, does that mean it could change your pet to male, and then you could use another berry to change it and it could choose male again? I definitely do feel like it should default to the opposite. I think I like the male gender berry and female gender berry tho as an option so that you could take the guesswork out of it and get what you pay for instead of potentially having to pay twice.

The gender berry is not random. If you have a male pet, it changes the gender to female. If female, it changes to male.

The problem is if you start with a genderless pet. Supposedly the resulting change is random (either male or female), but user experience has been that it always changes to male.

full support as the genderless berry can't be coded as i suggested. having it be a random sp sink would just be very incredibly frustrating for no reason at all imo.
