What is the Aggregated News Feed exactly? I see this option in my Dashboard settings but I have no clue of its purpose. Is it possibly the brown rectangle that pops up at the top of the pages when there's a new news post?

(If not, is it possible to disable the brown rectangles? Is there a CustomCSS thing that does that, perhaps?)

Thanks in advance!

News post from way back when, June 2011.

Subeta has been trying to keep us more informed for a very long time. It was never used a whole lot back then, and still isn't. These days its mostly covered through the siteupdate group. I've still got it listed as enabled because they do the very rare announcement rather than news and I don't like to miss anything.

[edit] As for removing the announcements, you can check this Useful Custom CSS Builder for existing code, or ask in that thread about how to make the code you want.

People who had Aggregated were (still) ignoring what was posted in Announcements, and then complaining every bit as much about it as they were before aggregation was possible. I don't think it's reasonable for staff to suppose it's a useful place to put information that's not News information. That they started doing this less, and started putting that stuff in the News anyways is the thing to do, to me.

If you want to know what's going on, and most of the time you don't have to, it's in your interest to pay attention everywhere.

Thanks guys! I'm not sure if I understood right but I think I got what it is, haha! (Oh and I managed to remove these announcements by my own, thanks!)
