There's something bothering me about certain item rarities. The items in the Quest Shop, Carnival Prize Shop, and Forum Shop are all of the Game Prize rarity because you buy them with currencies you earned, and yet the items in the Bathhouse Shop and Blue Building Shop, and Recycle Shop are of the Artifact rarity even though the currency for those are obtained in a similar way. In fact, the posting in the forums isn't even considered a game, so why are the items in the Forum Shop Game Prizes and not Artifacts? I'm just wondering what sets them apart so that they have different rarities. The same goes for why the items in the Neugarten Shops (apart from the Brewery, I think) are Artifacts rather than Holiday Items.

Rarity has never made sense in Subeta so I guess I never paid that much attention? Rarities in the Millionaire Center are downright mad.

I know that for the longest time anything that was in any way unusual got filed under r150 for Special and that category became monstrously huge. Many of the rarities above 101 that we see today are the separation of Special. It had to be split-up by hand.

Artefact is a newer rarity and maybe the items you mention should all be Artefacts but they haven't been moved over from Game Prize yet because it also needs to be done by hand? Maybe the definition of "what is a game" in Subeta which is a game of games needs to be created with more defined boundaries?

It partly has to do with the history of Subeta. Back in the beginning there were a lot less rarities, so like said some rarities got overused and became meaningless. So Subeta decided to add more, but not all at once. Since rarities were added a little at time, new items got tagged the more appropriate rarity, but older item remained the old rarity.

There are also some issues with how the items were originally given out - for example there are a whole bunch of prizes from an old game that no longer exists, but people still want those items. So long ago they were game prizes, but now those items might show up in the crystal shop, the Token Shop, the Millionaire center, or a million other places, but would still have "game prize" rarity.

Its all pretty messy and some behind the scenes discussion would need to happen. Do you change the rarity when you change where/how something goes back into the system? And if you're constantly changing rarities how does that affect games/systems that have rarity based programming?

Changing them now:

  1. would require a bunch of discussion and decisions by staff so that consistency is maintained in the future.
  2. is a huge job no one has time for.
  3. would mess with their formulas for crystals/fragmentizing, quests, recycle beast, and who knows what else.
