I don't want to call this a guide, because with a capped pet, I think my extra stats probably give me some leeway on being able to use suboptimal weapons and still get away with it. So I thought I would at least share my approach since I don't have the optimal weapons to beat him here with would probably involve a sandreaver or wand of the phoenix.

If you do have access to a sandreaver or WoTP its pretty easy. This is probably the best set: WoTP is probably jsut as good, and there is probably some debate about swash vs trident vs ME vs Cronus for the second weapon. But I don't have the key ice defender there so I'm forced to go to different options.

Most common icons are Ice, Wind, Dark, with some physical and light in decent quantities. To find this out, I pretty much just went into a battle and eyeballed it. I'm sure you could figure out the actual number of average icons per turn of each type it will do, but we don't actually have accurate data on how many of each weapon it has, and what the actual range of each weapon is. You can freeze it. You can use blessings and curses. It can activate a curse that doesn't let you use scrolls temporarily. I have not seen it steal. It can freeze.

For any of the ice heavy opponents what I usually prefer to do is figure out which split weapons are most effective against the challenger and try to get up to 100 ice defense through split weapons. Unfortunately Malhuilis Ice/Light combo isn't great, and Unstable sample syringe's ice/magma combo doesn't help much either. Dark and air have readily availible counters in maniacal essence and Swashbuckle. And then Cronus Blade with its str and defense boosting is always in consideration

The potential combos that I came up with to test were:

For scrolls initially I was trying out a defensive set up with a healing scroll and the Void Scrolls since I thought it would be a longer battle. But then I tried out the chain freezing, and it was night and day faster with chain freezing. I was worried he might break the chain with a curse, but it rarely happened.

I haven't actually capped this opponent yet, so I don't really know which of the constant combos will end up being the best. I suspect it will be either Mal + Me or Mal + Cronus, but once I figured out just how much better the chain freeze was compared to a defensive scroll set up, i've just been using ME + Cronus for more firepower. Once I do start to meet resistance i'll probably try all of the different combos to see if anything will squeak out a few more wins. And then once I do that if there is still time and i'm bored, maybe i'll try to borrow a sandreaver.

For people that don't have easy access to a Malhuili I suspect that the ME + Cronus or ME + Swash will end up being the best combos that are available to me. ME + Unstable Sample syrine might be worth testing.

For what it's worth I've been using ME and USS with my capped pet. Got to 15 wins relatively easily, then really, really struggled for another two before getting bored and stopping. Might swap out USS for Cronus tomorrow and see how that goes, since I don't have Mal or WotP.

I wasn't super impressed with the Cronus + ME, had to switch off it pretty quickly (I think around 15 wins actually).

I think it just blocks too few icons

I've had a lot of success with ME + Blade of the Bonfire, since I dont have access to any other ice blockers (Malhuili, Sandreaver, WOTP)

Another tool is to use the unstable fairy scroll which can block 30 ice and freeze occasionally

and yea i don't think Cronus is the best constant here - i get that it is a grind and the stat boosts help but the ice just blasts you.

Cronus blade always surprises me, I always bring it in super deep into a high score table almost as a joke, and it helps pull off unexpected wins. Although what I do sometimes is also bring 3 constants so when HP is high i'm using Cronus and a good constant, and when HP is low I use 2 good constants.

I knew I forgot about an ice blocker, I'll probably add Mal + Blade to the try it list.

Yea the cronus can surprise LOL esp on the long grinds - a true god weap. Wish other godlies boosted stats.

i have Bones scrolls: 255 AP and most of the time i switch between these scrolls depending on the opponent

for hoarfrost i use the 8 shrieks 1 pshycho smasher 1 gift of the forj and one of each Cold Blast Gale Force Aftershocks Strong Stomp

as for weapons i dont have the two you mention so i guess it will be the alternative :)

Sooo going back to our chat about cronus - I modded mine with 4 EOR freezing crystals + chainfreeze + unstable snowfairy and it works well.

Yeah I think the mods are important on this guy when you don't have ideal weapons. I used ME + swash and modded with 5 parched and 3 freezing marquise (at minimum), 3 freezing EoR if you have enough to waste. Between that, scrolls and blasting, it was easy enough to chain freeze him until his health gets really up there.
