did they change this? I always thought pet hunger went down 0-3 pts every hour. Of course that info is years old and they may have changed it due to errors and glitches with inconsistent hunger loss.

You can put your pets in the Lakeview Resort (in Veta) or the Rathskeller Inn (in Port Plunder, the pirate's side of Omen Islands. You have to complete an Uncharted Land Map to gain access.) to make sure they stay fed and happy. That being said, there aren't really any penalties for not feeling your pets; you just can't battle with them. So don't worry if they get hungry.

Yeah, it used to work that way (or was supposed to) for gourmand pets so they would get hungrier faster and you could feed them more food. I don't have a link to the post, but I know I remember or someone saying it was changed to 1 point every hour for every pet because they were having a lot of trouble getting the other way to be consistent and it would sometimes be several hours before a pet's hunger even dropped 1 point.

I think that's part of why they later added the cleansing pools at the bathhouse as a compromise for people who want to feed their gourmands faster.
