Welp, since I can't get to the blue building without posting in the forums... I figured I would just jump in and make a post. I'm new-ish in that I am not on this EVERY DAY, however, I have been on and off for many years now. I have a goal of 98 posts to accomplish so any hints tips and tricks you all want to give me here would be very much appreciated. I have all kinds of jokes, stories, and weird things to say and tell but I need your help to keep it going. I am not the best at MASSIVE forums like this which is why I'm going to try to just stick to this one thread. Unfortunately, since I am not on all the time, I can't really keep up with them as fast as I would prefer... I can do 1 thread though! Will it work? Probably not, my luck is terrible, BUT I figured it wouldn't hurt to try... Who knows, maybe I'll make a friend or two? (I literally have none on here so that was actually a bad joke) ^_^;

So you are saying that I can get in trouble for having a single post just to myself for a simple conversation with random people who want to help me accomplish a set goal? That doesn't seem too fair in my opinion. Since I'm not actually "Spamming" anything, I don't see why me having a single thread would be against the rules (Especially since I'm legitimately asking for help with a problem I personally have, Socialization). This seems especially unfair for those, like me, who aren't very social in the first place and who... ultimately, prefer NOT to talk to other people online. I work a lot and jump on this site with what little spare time I have. It is a nice escape for me to casually complete my quests daily and feed my pets. I don't have time to look through THOUSANDS of posts, most of which are for specific purposes that don't even pertain to me. I do not come onto this site to talk to other people or socialize (Granted, If I had a friend or two on here who proved to be worth time, that could change with time).

That is the reason I don't have ANY posts on my account after being on here for years... I'm not very social with people I don't know on the internet as I have had stalkers and very unpleasant experiences with forums (Not specifically this one but honestly, I prefer to just abstain and save myself frustrations). Despite my bad experiences with people online, I like this site very much, which is why I'm going out of my comfort zone to even post this post in the first place so that I can be apart of this site like anyone else. I would prefer NOT to go into multiple other posts and "FAKE" a reply to get up to my 100 posts. So, I figured I would make 1 post for myself and maybe get to know people who actually want to help me accomplish my goal and talk to me... So, to STOP spam, I will not go through other posts and give replies as they will be, in my eyes, spam on other people's threads (Which in my mind, is unfair to the author of that post).

Is it possible for staff to consider a special area for those who prefer NOT to socialize on multiple posts but who still enjoy the game enough to continue playing for 5+ years? I find it a bit frustrating to be forced to socialize with others to accomplish a requirement on a game that ultimately does NOT require socialization with others. Forgive any offense but I'm a bit frustrated with your answer... I may consider another site if I am not even allowed one post to accomplish a ridiculous game requirement.

I'm not sure if the reply you got was necessarily saying this type of thread is spam or not, (well now I know it was, I got super ninja'd lol) but I'm generally dissatisfied with the forum rules here, especially regarding the "necro" rule and what constitutes spam (the necro rule was recently revised to be better, but it's not good enough imo). Considering how dead and unwelcoming the forums are, I think they should just be glad anyone wants to post on them at all. But I digress.

Personally, I recommend joining the forum group Posting Frenzy which has a bunch of threads you can post spammy stuff in (like daily/game results, random thoughts, forum games, etc.) and it's not so highly regulated as the main forum. You'll get your post count up in a hurry (Exhibit A: I hate posting and socializing but look at my post count, it's mostly thanks to that group) and you won't have to worry about whether or not your posts "contribute enough to the discussion" or whatever. Do be aware that they changed the rules so that you can no longer receive Forum Points from posting in private groups (boooo!) but increasing your post count will be a breeze.

(I'll have to do some searching next time im on and have time, i'm about to leave work for the day so replies wont be till tomorrow). I agree with you in that the forum isn't too inviting. I am on another forum that is WAY smaller and I am a larger presence there but that is because I have been with it for like 10+ years and all of the game itself is within the forum, so you go into the game knowing the entire thing is a forum and you HAVE to be social to play.

You're welcome! :) Haha, that's kind of ironic since I'm definitely not the biggest talker. Well, I'm not a chit-chatter, at least...I do enjoy a deep conversation now and then, but in my experience, it's pretty difficult to find anyone else who's interested in that on forums like these. It's mostly smalltalk, which I'm bad at, and random spam, which is boring. So I share your frustration with that, and your preference for purpose and reason, but the way I look at it is this: increasing your post count so you can reach your goals in other parts of the site (BB, achievements) is the purpose and the most expedient way to get that done is to post quick, meaningless stuff in the spam threads. It's annoying, but it's just the result of the site forcing us to engage in social activities some of us would rather avoid in order to advance in the game.

Necroing is when you post on an old thread that no one's posted on in a while. I think it used to be three months and now it's six months. So if you found a super interesting topic you want to post in, but no one's posted on it since May, you can't post...you have to make a whole new topic about the same thing. Which as far as I'm concerned, is just contributing MORE spam because now there are two threads about a topic that doesn't get a whole lot of interest. Plus you can't respond directly to the existing comments and keep the thread of the discussion going (you could ping commenters to the new thread, but...why all this bother?). I just find it silly and it's a big part of why the forums here are uninviting...they fill up with a bunch of dead, locked topics and people become wary of posting for fear of breaking rules like these.

HAHA! I figured it was something to do with something dead. It makes sense now. Thanks for that insight and definition! In the smaller forum that I'm in, topics that aren't posted on within a certain time frame are locked automatically so you can't raise that dead even if you wanted too, only the forum owner could (It's rather a nice feature). Being in this larger society forum (Going from like 15 to 500+) is definitely intimidating.

The fact that you have to start a duplicate topic would probably be the most frustrating thing to me. I would use it as a means of adding to the game... Make an item (Necromancer), so when it is used, you get a token to "Awaken" one dead thread (Granted this would work more if the entire game was forum based - Then you get points for each thread you bring back that stays alive and can get an award for the longest living dead thread ^o^... might take this to my other forum as an idea xD HAHA)

It would be frustrating for people who leave for some unexpected reason (Death, moving, etc. who knows) and then come back to have their topic locked down. Life... right?! hahaha I'm glad to find at least one person who shares my frustrations. Being a writer, I feel close to my words and don't really want to leave behind spam... even if I'm under an alias (Principle!) ^_^;; But I do understand your point... very valid. For some reason my mind associates it with data storage... Lol You can only level up in this game if you increase their server cap. hehe

I think I read that there's supposed to be a new NecroBot that performs that function on here, automatically closing inactive threads, but I haven't seen it in action yet and I'm pretty sure I've seen some newly-necro'd threads so I'm not sure it's working.

I kind of love your thread necromancer idea. Perhaps the item could be earned through posting (as if we need even more incentives trying to coerce us to post, but I can't really think of a better way to distribute such an item...just charging sP for it seems like a lazy implementation). Maybe it could be a reward for reaching a certain post count...sort of the site acknowledging that you have enough posting experience to be responsible with the power to raise the dead haha. (Really though, ideally, they'd just do away with the rule altogether. These forums aren't active enough to justify shutting threads down for not moving fast enough.)

As someone who goes through relatively outgoing periods and then clams up for weeks on end, the necro rule has bitten me in the butt a few times. I've made threads about stuff I really do want to talk about but then shortly ran out of the social energy or whatever to keep up with them and they got forgotten. Maybe I'd like to talk about those things again, but not enough to make another thread about it; that feels too awkward.

I can understand and respect that, wanting to stick to your principles and all. I think maybe one way around that would be to post in the private Posting Frenzy group I linked earlier...at least then your spam is quarantined in one small corner of the forums that not everyone will see lol. But if that just doesn't appeal to you at all, I'm sure you will get there with more substantial posts as well. Just seems like a lot of work to me and I'm lazy. XD

NecroBot... It sounds like a new item. xD haha. No idea how it would be distributed... maybe if you join a special "Group" and you learn how to become one ;D That would be really neat for those who RP and story write (Might be a very interesting story!?). I personally am big on storytelling and RP so I would probably make a requirement to have a "Character" associated with it and give their story (You know, show some effort and you can get it - No judgments, just submit a story). That's what I would do anyway.

Idk, I think there are many ways to do games and fun events in forums. There just doesn't seem to be any SPECIFIC person who runs it... so no one knows who to look for (Multiple mods are awesome but there should be 1 main account that has fun in-forum events). I run a BUNCH of events on my other forum, well I used to do it more (The forum kinda died a little bit right now cause the main artist has been out), and all of them were within the actual posts. It's not a game and forum merged like this site. So like, we would do different events and games within the forum itself. There are deadlines and rules, etc. so all you have to do is read the first thread and bingo, you can play the game. Examples: Musical Chairs, Coloring Contests, Photo-Hunt, Bingo, Lottery, etc. (Granted all are normally hosted by a specific person with an non-member picking the winning numbers, etc. to help promote fairness - Everyone is equal and amazing!). So for some of them, they are live and to participate it's kinda like luck/fate... you have to be there clicking your F5 like a crazy person to see new posts as they come up. It's a lot of fun but can be frustrating too (Especially if you have a crappy internet connection LOL). Then there are long running events that you just enter into and then at the end when time is up you see the results.

I feel you on the respect and social energy levels. There are many times when I just want to be alone and talk to NO ONE, then times when I'm DYING to just be waved to. lol I think I'm gonna try to see what you were talking about with the posting frenzy group. It might take me a bit longer than I hope to do it with the holiday and everything but I will look into it!

Lol I'd be in trouble if that was the requirement...I'm not big on writing stories and I'm even more averse to sharing much about the characters and stories I do create. I still think the best thing would be to just get rid of the rule. But as if to prove a point to me, someone just revived a ton of uncomfortably old posts in this section haha. So ok, fine, maybe there should be a necro rule but the cutoff should be like a year or two. Even I don't care to see something from 2015 back on the front page of the forums lol. And I'd also suggest that the creator of the post should always be allowed to come back and reactivate it. You can tell when it's someone who actually has something they want to add to the discussion and when they're just posting literally everywhere for the post count, but I'm not sure there's a way to make a rule that differentiates between them, or that it's even a frequent enough occurrence here that we need to. I'd rather see lively threads with active discussions and a little bit of spam than a highly-regulated forum where everything's locked up tight and everyone's afraid to post, since even though I'm not the biggest forum participant myself, I see forum activity as an indicator of the health of the site as a whole.

I'm not sure what an entirely game-based forum like you're describing is like but there are a lot of user-run games and contests on these forums, you might enjoy those! There are always HA contests and lots of random raffles where you might be asked to post your favorite cookie or some little anecdote about something to enter. Several years ago, I participated in a huge scavenger hunt on here that was really fun, where we had to go find things in real life and post pictures in the thread. It sounds like you might have some great ideas for user-run games and events to start here if they don't already exist.

Yep, I feel that. I'm a major loner, I prefer to do almost everything alone, but sometimes I would like to have a friend to hang out with too. Unfortunately, I'm pretty weird and awkward, so no one seems particularly interested in talking to me in real life lol. I literally don't even know how to make friends as an adult...I never really connect with coworkers or anything like that. I only had one close friend but she moved to another state a few years ago and for some reason I will never understand, she decided to freak out and "dump" me this year when I went to visit her and it really messed me up. I'm already a pretty cynical person and now I will definitely never really trust anyone again. I made the mistake of trusting her completely because we've been best friends since middle school and I thought I knew her, and I honestly have no idea why she suddenly got so angry that she threatened to ditch me in a strange city at night to find my own way to the airport the next day...I have seriously considered the idea that she may have a brain parasite or something because it was so uncharacteristic of her. We've hardly even had a slight disagreement in all the years I've known her. That happened in June so she's had since then to apologize (for my part, I apologized a lot for upsetting her even though I don't know what I did) but instead she just sent me a Christmas card continuing to blame me and telling me to forget her. My series of misanthropic and depressing HAs this month have actually been me working through that but I think I'm starting to do better now. I would think that making a simple rule to regulate what a "post" is considered. I would think you have to have at least 1 full sentence, with punctuation (That would probably be what the system would look for to differentiate this). That would be counted, whereas if you just post "Ok" it wouldn't? Not sure if that is making sense or not but I would think that could be a possibility to cut down on spam. Nod nod

I'm not sure what the rules are for linking to other sites here so I'm not going to post the forum I am speaking about, however, I wouldn't mind finding a way to send it to you via other means, you might enjoy the community. It is a bit slow at the moment as the owner is just finally able to get back into it again (She was on hiatus for health issues) but it's quite an amazing place. The art alone is just... FANTASTICLY AMAZING. She is unmatched in my eyes and everything is a bit more individualistic (No characters are the same and in most instances they are made specially for you). The control is yours. Once you realize that... you will be able to gain that confidence to be more social. The thing is, I really have a strong disdain for petty rules and would rather eliminate them whenever possible. Even though my posts are generally not only long, but downright rambly, I would resent a rule that said "posts must contain a full sentence" and then I'd want to rebel against it and make the shortest possible posts all the time just out of spite. "No." is a complete sentence, after all haha. I know spam is a real issue on some forums (and by "issue" I mean it buries valuable posts, not just that it's present; if it's easily overlooked I really don't care) but I just don't think it's that big of a deal here. Even in this recent case of necro'ing, that's pretty infrequent and it was only the timing (since I was just talking about it) that really made it worth mentioning for me. I'm sure those rules can be totally justified on busy sites though. I can only hope that this site may once again enjoy such traffic someday.

Crazy hermit witch in the forest, that's awesome. XD I'm definitely something of a hermit, although unfortunately, I'm stuck in a crappy urban area and I don't care for it at all. But I do live in a very creepy, very old house and between my weird hours (working nights), proclivity for staying inside and out of sight of neighbors or else doing outdoor activities or leaving the house under cover of night (they are rude, entitled jerks anyway; I had an encounter the day after I moved in that set the tone for future interactions with them) and the fact that I tend to leave up Halloween decorations year-round, I can only hope I appear creepy and eccentric enough that everyone will just leave me alone. So far, it's working. Oh and also, I have a very loud and ferocious dog (actually, she's a super sweet chocolate lab, but she sounds like an absolute beast from the other side of the door and starts barking as soon as anyone crosses the property line onto the lawn, so unknown visitors are always terrified of her and leave right away). She's the goodest girl and gets all the treats.

Well, I don't believe in messages from the universe or anything like that but you are right...she is being unreasonable and it's time to move on. It's 2020 for crying out loud lol, time for some clearer vision, time to look forward and not dwell on what's done and gone. I will never be a very social person (way too introverted for that) but I will try to stick my head out of my shell once in a while. Online. In a nice controlled environment.
