it feels like at least 2/3 days have gone by with it closed, is there like any major reason for it being closed for so long? i don't use it too much but it's really unusual to see it closed this long.

I can't remember/find where I saw it mentioned, but I believe it was closed because of an issue with messages not showing up correctly

huh, i knew there was some message lagging and it required like navigating to another page to refresh. but that wasn't a really new phenomenon from my memory and w/o any real notice i saw it was closed and my first thought was 'oh, things might have gotten too heated so the admins might have closed it to let everyone cool off' but when it went for like a day i was like 'huh'
