The amount of money needed should be displayed as well as percentage of the goal that is meet.
Am I correct in saying that the amount needed to keep this site alive is $500 per day?
Or is it weeks, months ?

I'm happy with the goal being merely a percentage on the front page as it is already. Subeta's finances are their business, I really don't care for seeing the actual totals.
iirc, the last time the daily goal was brought up in another site feedback topic, many users were interested in changing it to a monthly percentage counter instead of a daily one. That's one change I'd be interested in. Seeing the daily counter more or less around zero unless there's a sale or bonus weekend is really disheartening, and it doesn't really paint a good picture to a new user who's considering joining. :/
As for having actual numbers displayed... I don't know why people would need to know this. I get being curious, but the actual numbers are Subeta's business and responsibility. The percentage is fine.
I definitely agree with a monthly (or even weekly) verses daily might make it seem less like, to be frank, the site's going to kick any day now when it appears most of the time to be far below the goal (bit maybe the goal is set high, or maybe during sales it goes well over and balances out, or maybe who knows).
That said sure there's a curiosity to know what the goal number is (human nature, I suppose) but as it sits today knowing the answer wouldn't make much difference for me; in an AU where I had things to spend money on I wanted, if there was a monthly goal and towards the end of a month the site was relatively close I'd probably be inclined to throw some money in the pot. That isn't the universe we live in right now though, so really I'd just like it if daily I wasn't shown a sad bar.
this is a bad idea. not only is it not our business to know ( the daily goal % bar is a bit too much for me personally ) it makes people focus on dollar amounts which i personally believe should not be the main factor of being on a petsite ( or even on the front page )
when you walk into a store would you want all the employees to just tell you their daily goal and push you to buy buy buy even when you dont have the funds. it creates a big mess and then the focus becomes the users are just money machines for the site.
i dont have the funds to spend CSC on the site and when i see a sad little bar that we have currently is feels like a guilt trip, even if its not meant to be. users care for the site so then they want to pitch in what they can but there comes a point where its like....... we come to the site to enjoy it not stress about money? idk i just think its bad business practice and more guilt trippy than anything. buyers guilt shrug
i get it, the site needs money to run but holy hell i dont think putting it on show is the best idea. i feel like im just being seen as a dollar sign then im "not doing my part" by meeting a goal.
If I remember right, the current counter was requested by users too but I could be wrong. I believe it was added after we learned that subeta had financial issues and we wanted to know how much we had to buy to keep it going or something.
Maybe it can only be shown to logged in users? Or have a css class so you can hide it with customCSS or something. I'm not bothered by it personally but eh. No harm in giving people the option to hide it if it grates that much.
I'm glad the goal is there. I wish it were monthly not daily for the simple fact of sales and bonus weekends exceeding the daily goal and it gives a better picture of how things really are. Most days it's kinda scary and depressing seeing the goal get no where near 100% but I know it's been mentioned before that the bonuses and such really help the monthly finances. Just the way my brain works when it comes to money I guess. I look at things month to month not day to day. <3
A monthly goal sounds good. If Subeta staff don't want to reveal the exact amount raised/needed, then a monthly goal would look better than a daily one. The daily goal gets smashed during bonus weekends, but we can't see how that compares to a typical day with no bonuses. A monthly goal would give us a better idea of what's going on.
No support for showing the exact amount of money needed, but I would very much like to move to a monthly vs daily tracker. Seeing the daily goal at near empty on most days is very disheartening. Currently, there's no way to tell if bonus weekend purchases make up for the rest of the month.
As a related note, several people suggested a monthly goal + some sort of small perk when the goal was met, so we could feel like we were working toward the goal as big community. I think it was in this thread.
