Would it be misrepresentation if I coded my pet's profile to show an image other than the official art for that species/colour combo? (art which is pretty easily recognisable as the same species/colour that my pet is)

If this is allowed, then I don't understand the purpose of the 500CSC upload custom overlay function. What benefit does it add? You get to see the overlay in places other than the pet profile? (Pets page, training, battle, etc blah)

Please help me clarify, and perhaps share your own experiences if you think it's relevant. I want to decide if it's worth paying for the custom overlay (not the art itself, I know that's separate).

It’s not a misrepresentation if you’re not doing something like using reborn serpenth art for a common kumos or swapping in art of pets from another site.

The benefit of the 500csc custom art is that the art is changed everywhere on site. Mall Cop’s art shows up in forum pet leashes, battle, sidebar, other pets’ friend listings- anywhere that pet appears it’ll show the custom art. Coding it into the profile is only visible on the profile. I guess it’s most ‘important’ if you want to see it while battling, on the news post for spotlight wins, or if for whatever reason you just want to always see the custom art.

Yeah, you can use code to show a different image on the profile. But you should keep the text that states the pet species and color combo, so people still know what it officially is (otherwise that could count as misrepresentation).

I don't have any custom overlays so I can't provide any insight on that, however it looks like that was already answered above. I do know you can change the image on the profile as long as it states what the actual color/species is. Before Custom Overlays were a thing I had some art made for one of my pet profiles and I've never had any issues, even won pet spotlight with it. I did keep the site's original coding with the color/species visible just to be safe.

To my knowledge and own experience, as long as you stay within the art limits of whatever color you happen to be using and don't try to use like a Reborn overlay for a Common or something like that, you're okay.

I have a Nostalgic Paralix with a custom overlay but I kept the custom overlay within the almost exact same pose as the original Nostalgic art and had absolutely no problems with getting that approved.

But this might really be ticket worthy so you get the absolute exacts instead of user hear-say.

From what I understand, you can use different poses, but they still have to be animal-like (you can't turn them into a human) and it has to be full-body, so you can't have just their head or face or something.

The list of rules for custom overlays can be found here: link

I would imagine it would be okay as long as the image you use on your profile also fits within those guidelines. But of course you can always submit a ticket if you're not sure if something would be allowed.

Thanks for the input, but that's not really what I was asking.

I have "custom designs" for

Reflecting and
Holistic
, and am considering them for two more. The images are on their profiles, currently not obstructing the official art. They are both close enough to the official designs that I have absolutely no doubt that if I submit them as they are now, they will be approved.

What I want to know is:

  1. If I use coding to obstruct the official art with non-official art on a pet profile, is that misrepresentation? (From what has been said so far, I think the answer is no, but I'm still not 100% sure.)

  2. Is it worth paying 500 CSC (x2, possibly more) to submit them as overlays in the first place? (This is something I can't ask in a ticket!)

  1. It is allowed, as long as you follow the same rules as you would for paying CSC for the custom overlay (so keeping the text that says what species and color it is and following the same art rules).

  2. That's up to you. Like said, if you pay the 500 CSC it has the custom art show up everywhere on the site that your pet's image would show up. If you only use the code to replace the image on your profile, that's the only place it will show up. It will not show the custom image on places like the pets page, training center, battling, etc. So it's a individual decision if it's worth 500 CSC to you to have the art show up everywhere, or if you're okay with only having it on the profile.

If it’s worth paying comes down to how much you like your custom art (as in, do you think you’ll still like it 6+ months down the line or will you want new art), and how important it is to you personally that the custom art is visible everywhere your pet shows up. It’s not really something we can answer for you, but I can say I have four custom overlays and I don’t regret them.
