This lesson contains an ESSAY QUESTION assignment.
"Hogwarts has a large but admittedly old stable of brooms to teach young students how to fly. It's common knowledge that one of the things that makes being a second year student nice is being allowed your own personal broom at school. Quality Quidditch Supplies in Diagon Alley is where the vast majority of players in Great Britain buy their equipment. Amateurs and professionals alike are excited by the latest hot models, and people are constantly comparing the pros and cons of brooms that are favored all over the world."
"I'm dying to know, what's your ideal broom like? What would you name it? What about the colors, the materials, and the features? Tell me all about the perfect broomstick that you envision!"
All students who participate in this lesson will be graded out of 15 Tournament Points. Bonus points may be awarded.
This lesson is due Friday, September 6th at 11:59 PM.

a flying beach chair would be like, tops. and/or a vespa. that would be grand actually. cause i never really got why brooms, i mean, they're traditional, but they're super uncomfy. i don't want a stick pressing into my bits for however many hours thanks
so i guess my ideal broom would have a seat of some sort, like a bike seat would be fine or even just a rectangular cushion, and also foot stirrups so your feet aren't just dangling. it would come in different colours like bikes do so you can coordinate and be cute, but like, more like kids bikes because adult bikes are boring. colourfully painted sticks with patterned seats, and tassels tied to the end, and how about baskets? probably on the back since the front you have to grab. my personal one would be pink w a strawberry print seat and the broom handle would also be covered in stickers.
(that's me, not tam talking lol. hers would just be goth. though she wouldn't say no to a flying dining room table she could pose dramatically on. tamara darkhorse, india)

Name: The Wingsweeper Colors: White, light grey, black Materials: Birch wood stick and tail twigs, silver-coated metalwork Features: A very flexible wood, soft enough to guarantee comfort yet unbendable enough to allow you to cut through strong air flows. It has a bipedal with adjustable position for positions from casually ridding to quickly chasing your target. The white, pale look is perfect to blend in a sunny cloudy sky or among stormy weathers.

My ideal broom would be called the Thunderfeather. It's powerful just like thunder, but extremely light and easy to control, similar to a feather. It would be made out of reddish cherry wood with winding yet sturdy silver metal fixings and maple twigs. The broom would ideally be convertible between a racing broom and a travelling broom. It would have a crossbar for your feet that would fixate rearwards and mostly horizontally when racing, but could be positioned into a more comfortable hanging position when travelling long distances.
It would also have the latest charms available for making your broom more comfortable and easier to ride, such as the Cushioning Charm invented by Elliot Smethwyck. It would be equipped with multiple different speeds to handle both travelling and racing, and have attachments for hauling baggage when travelling.
If designing a new broom I would make it pretty, but efficiently fast. Using a springy wood like ash for the handle and a natural dried grasses spelled to be long lasting and not break off. The stirrups would be bronze and the tail would be tied with a weathered string look.
It would fly fast and agile, comfortable, and look natural in the woods and in the air. It would look a bit old timey, but fly like the wind. More of a seeker's broom.
I would call it The Nostalgic Dart.

My ideal broomstick would be made from ebony and birch. The handle would be as close to black and a bit broader than the usual 'sport brooms' for longer voyages. The twigs of the tail would be almost white, glistening silver in the light. All accessories would be a matching silver. The name "Supernova" would be etched in Silver at the top of the handle. I choose this name because like a falling star, it leaves a trail and then disappears. The broom is faster at night, gaining its power from the moon. Still, it's a slower broom like I said before.

Series of brooms are called the cat’s switch. They come in all colors, red orange, brown and black. They special features are that there is a special built in seat for your companion, be it a cat as the broom is called or, frog or rat. There are more models geared to cats so if you have one it is the way to go but they did not want to exclude other companions. It is typically made of a fine wood like oak or red oak but for cheaper options they also have pine.

As I’m sure that Professor Caswell knows I’m rotten on a broom. Pretty much every one of our flight lessons ends with me panicking more than a foot of the ground. So there is no ideal broom that I would ever ride. However, there is an ideal broom I would like to own!
According to my Grandmother there was a type of broom that was used by ninja wizards and witches back in the Feudal Japan era. The name of the broom roughly translates to Shadow Strike from Japanese. Hard woods were used as a base and Shou Sugi Ban, an ancient technique of preserving wood by burning the surface with a high heat, which would then turn the wood a deep black color. It is a way to water and insect proof the wood as well as making it pitch black. It would help the rider blend into shadows as they infiltrated and gained information for their lords. The bristles of the broom were enchanted horse hair fibers, it made the brooms completely silent when flying. Most riders preferred using their own horses’ hair (especially if it was black) as they believed that the horse’s loyalty would transition into the broom.
The Shadow Strike was not only stealthily but also deadly. Two metal hooks jut out from the ends of the brooms, riders could use this for stability as they flew, but also could use their broom as a disarming weapon as they fought. Another hidden weapon was a Tanto blade hidden in the handle of the broom. This was used to make quick work of enemies as they quickly flew through the opposing soldiers.

My dream broom needs to be sturdy and stable first. I'll have to trust it with my life so...
The stick would be in black mulberry, made from one piece of wood. Runes and other signs would be delicately carved and highlighted in gold.
There would be some leather grips and straps in red, blue and orange on it ,with decorative beads as well. It also needs to have a curve to sit comfortably with a special "pillow" spell.
The footrest would be in iron, painted in gold. It needs to be ergonomic so you wouldn't have any pain in your legs and ankle if you stayed on it for hours.
The bundle would be made of pontine oak and trimed in a spear shape. Some of the twigs will have a bit of a golden hue, their ends would glow in the dark and leave a trail when flying.
The serie's name would be "Yerguink" and this model would be called "Kaytzak" (respectively meaning sky and lightning bolt in Armenian, according to some dictionnary that is ^^").
Drew thought about the assignment and then began to write.
For a person who doesn’t really like flying on a broom, I would have to combine several things from what I do love, namely riding horses, with broomsticks. My dream broom would be made of birch for the handle and aspen boughs for the tail. It would be sturdy, yet lightweight and easy to maneuver. The coloring of the wood would be silvery or light colored so that it would blend in with the sky well. Silver stirrup shaped foot rests would provide more solid foundation for your feet to rest. Light tan saddlebags with silver trim and buckles would be on the back. They would look small and unobtrusive, but be charmed to hold a large amount of items, making this a good broom to use for travel and adventures. While it can go fast enough to please all those but thrillseekers, it will be primarily for recreational purposes and not sports. It will come equipped with a burglar alarm charm and be covered with an anti-jinx varnish. There is also a weight detector charm so that the broom knows if the rider is an adult or child. I would name the broom the Astral Courser.
