I had a shitty day yesterday.

I was working with the lady that is a bitch. You guys know her as "S"

We’re babysitting a bird and he was on the bottom of the cage rocking back and forth and his feathers are ruffled.

I opened the door because I wanted to check him out (I was going to gently feel his chest. He could’ve fallen during the night and hit his crop (the part of a bird’s chest that’s very delicate. They can die if they hit it a certain way)).

She started going off at me “Leave him the fuck alone”. "Why can't I check him out?" "NO! LEAVE HIM ALONE".

I was like wow. Good start to the day and I was already trying not to cry. She called my boss in a panic because she though something was wrong with him (if it were J though, she'd let her touch him no problem).

So.... The bird was fine. There was nothing wrong with him. I think it was because she tore the cover off his cage and scared the shit out of him (when I'm working and if we're looking after him, I like to turn on the lights and talk to him and gently lift a corner and then take the cover off).

And then I saw the schedule and started crying J got 24 hours last week and she has 27.5 hours this week. I only have 5 hours. My boss told me I'd get hours this week, but looks like she got J when all she can do is bitch about her.

I’ve been working there for 7+ years and J has been here for 2 years. HOW IS THAT FAIR?

And this still upsets me. I cried this morning. Maybe I'm just a snowflake?

P.S. Later in the day, I asked who was allowed to take out the bird we're babysitting. She says "I was told to do it. You're NOT to TOUCH him".

I still feel like shit.

uh you should have been able to check on the bird.... You'd be able to tell if something was wrong youve taken care of animals for a long time. That's bullshit on the hour thing. Even part time people get like 15hrs minimum

I'm only there for the animals, honestly. If it wasn't for me... they wouldn't be well cared for.

I'm honestly embarrassed saying "I work part-time at a pet store and I get 5 hours a week. I'm lucky if I can get a Saturday"

I'm sorry you had such a crappy day! It really sucks when you have to work with people like that!

Have you ever considered maybe starting a pet sitting business? You would work for yourself, probably by yourself and I know there are a lot of people who would like to be able to leave their pets in their homes when they go on vacation instead of boarding them, like for instance my cats. You would probably have to be bonded and insured but that might not be a big problem. You could start with friends, neighbors, and family, get some good vibes and recommendations and be able to maybe supplement your income nicely. Just a thought;)
