I figured it would make more sense to post this in here(due to the complaining nature of the thread) instead of ping everyone in my help thread where I asked a question that lead me to submitting a ticket.

(I pinged everyone that posted in the help thread because I figured you would like to be updated on the matter, if not please accept my sincere apologies)

I wondered why custom facial features was against the rules, and all people could think of was due to a game mechanic that no longer exists, which was that only avatars with the zombie strain used to be able to enter the zombie shop all year round. So to make sure that there were no other reasons, I sent in a ticket to ask the staff.

My ticket:

Quote

I asked around on the forum and was told that there used to be a game mechanic in place with the zombie event: that users were not allowed to hide their faces/being zombies, and that this was why there was a rule about no custom facial features. Is this true? Or are there more reasons involved for not allowing custom facial features? Later the game mechanic of having to be a zombie to access the shop was removed, allowing non-zombie avatars to access the shop, therefore I assume that custom facial features should no longer be a problem for the zombie event any more. It might even enhance it! 😊 I&;m sure a lot of people would love to make cool facial features, which would increase the amount of CSC spent on the site, and make everyone really happy and excited! Is there any chance the rule against custom facial features will change or be removed in the future?

Response from staff:

Hi there,

We do not have any current plans to make facial features available for custom wearables outside of contests. The reasoning is we just want some things on site left in the hands of our official site artists for consistency&;s sake. While I would "never say never" as the saying goes, it is not in the forseeable future.

IS there anything else I can help you with?

Well, this is unfortunate, and also a pretty poor decision from a bussiness point of view. I guess they don't want more of our money -shrug-

That sucks, but is not unexpected.

Your only option, at this point is to make an item suggestion for the various types of eyes, and maybe other facial features you'd like to see.

That's unfortunate. I do think there's a market for it - so many people were excited about being able to make face things in the Masquerade custom item contest. Heck, I think the eyes I use all the time () is from an Survival contest of the same nature.

I'm not at all surprised, it's unfortunate because I have ideas but I'm not surprised. The old reasoning was because if you had custom facial features, you could hide being a zombie better and that was a total no go but I'm glad to see that thinking went.

Tbh I'm not very surprised by this answer. I know there's been a lot of argument lately on why facial features are not allowed- I mean there's not much reason not to allow them but I always thought that it was because staff want total control (Sorry I'm drawing a blank over how to phrase it in a nicer way haha) over something and that something happens to be facial features. I think its a fair enough reason.

Great :( so I have to ask for a content that they may just choose to not even provide.

it would be more fair in my opinion if they had the man-power to provide all the eye variation (and I'm not just talkign eye type but also eye color) that other dressing games provide. I've played a lot of dress up games in my day and time and the current facial options are not doing it for me. With a chibi style like these avatars I expect/desire large chibi eyes, but they got the placement of the eyes all wrong on most of the larger eyes (aka the eyebrows touching where the hairline should begin) or the eyes super large, but not in the center of the head but too far to the top. There are very few eyes that actually fit the big eye chibi look, and even fewer that are available in the color brown.

Now all I have to use is the eyes I'm wearing now :( all the other eyes are too small, not available in brown, or have the weird eyebrow/eye placement issues. It would be a bit less hard to swallow their "control" issues if I werent starving for a content they don't provide.

well, you may not get the type of stuff you want, that's true. But staff does look at the suggestions and do try to provide us with stuff we want. A lot of the newest stuff from Neugarten, for example were asked for - the cordials, stuff for the off hand (bags and bottles), and wallpapers. Vesnali also had several things that had been asked for.

Of course, its not always exactly what we ask for, and the art staff need to feel inspired, but it does happen :).

Alright, that is somewhat comforting. I'm going to have to be very specific about my request though, because even if they grant it they may place the eyes too high or add rediculous eyebrows, or the art might not look good.

I know it’s not ideal, but couldn’t people make masks if they really wanted to add something? Or would it be a no go because of what said earlier?

Honestly, I'm actually pretty okay with staff's decision on this. I have nothing against CW creators/buyers or anyone in the CW market, but it's extremely exclusive. CWs are, in general, much nicer items than a lot of official items on the site, which means that those with CWs have a great advantage making nicer HAs as opposed to those who don't. If CWs were allowed to include facial features, that means that anyone who can't afford CWs or won't use them for some reason would just be left in the dust. That and there are already SO many CWs and items on here that are extremely exclusive and adding facial features to that would increase the number of very exclusive items on the site enormously.

Again, I have nothing against anyone involved with the CW market. I think it's a great way for Subeta to give some creativity to their users while making money on their end. I just believe that their decision is for the best and that it's not a bad thing for facial features to be staff-exclusive.

A bit of trivia relating to this. The Android Dystopia Costume Trunk was added to the site on 07/30/08. I commented to say I'd bought the female set.

The female set includes the

This is one of the items which has a different version for the male and female HA base. It was much easier to hide being a zombie when wearing it. (The Great Pandemic with zombies was Feb 2009).

The old reasoning seems a bit odd.

This about sums up my thoughts on the matter. Yes, it sucks if you want specific eyes in specific colors or whatever, but at the same time not everyone can afford (or is interested in) CW's. I only have 3 - two made by friends of mine that I felt like supporting, and one Pride related item since there are not enough of those on site.

That being said, I do think for CW contests like during last Masq the staff should make better choices. I heard people made a bunch of great items but (no offense meant to those artists who were picked) the ones the staff picked for us to vote on were a bit lackluster and very similar to already existing items in terms of face/eye/ect items. I think the happy medium is to keep things as they are but during a CW contest have the staff pick more unique facial things for us to vote on. If there are 50 brown eyes in a similar style but only a small handful of other colors the other colors should get picked or other styles should be picked that aren't similar to things that exist on the site already.
