I'm currently knee deep in boxes and I'm tired. I have to have my 2 bedroom apartment packed and ready to move by Monday. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it. Here's hoping!!
I admit i am not moving very far, just across town, but it seems like miles away.
Anyone have any moving stories to share? Where is the furthest you have moved?

Ugh, moving haha. You can do it! Last time we moved, it was just across town. But before that, 200 miles, in a February snow storm. XD Whoops haha. But we own our house now, so hopefully no more moving for a while! Good luck! <3
Good luck! I've moved several times before. One time I was basically living out of my car for about 6 months because I didn't have a permanent place to stay, I had my whole life in my car which was basically just boxes of books. That time was rough, I ended up having to get rid of a lot of my belongings. I've never moved far though, the furthest I've gotten is about 30 minutes away from where I started lol

How did the move go?
The furthest we moved was far enough that we needed to take 2 buses to get to my parents and 2 or 3 buses to get to my fiance's parents (depending on the route and we don't drive). the place was uptown, and parents live/d close to the edge of the city. It was a depressing apartment, because it was dark and we had little money too :(
We live here for like 5 years now. life was both good and bad, and i pray to soon own our own place :) packing/unpacking is not fun :(

The move went horribly honestly. It took over a week to move everything and I moved during the hottest part of the season with my hunny as the main help.
Now I'm stuck in a lease with a landlord from hell. She's sketchy, taking advantage of me and doing so many illegal things it's not funny. It's taking a toll on me mentally and financially, but I'm afraid of eviction and losing my housing voucher so I'm keeping my mouth shut and just waiting for my year to be up.
Otherwise than that. I like the apartment and the location is awesome. It's close to my doctor's office, hospital and my pharmacy. And the stores aren't far away either.

I've moved so many times. 4 times within Washington state in a timeframe of about 7 years. Then a 5th time, which was the furthest which was about 3000 miles from Washington to Florida...then we moved BACK less than a year later because dad's job didn't last as long as promised (allllll by car...eww). We stayed in our apartment for almost 10 years then we did a 1200ish drive from Washington state to southern California. Moved 4 times in Cali in 9 years, but in that time I moved to Nevada for about 9 months then moved back in with my parents.
Moving kinda sucks, but I'm pretty used to it at this point. We will be moving again soon I'm sure. I'm hoping to plant roots up north again and help my parents find a place to retire before going to school.
oh wow, i'm so sorry to hear that. :( I would seek some legal help/advice if i were you - to be somewhat prepared. :s in any case, if the place itself is nice and the location good, i understand why you don't want to stir the waters. We generally had 1 day to move - and i refer strictly to carrying the stuff from the old place to the new one. Luckily, we were able to rent vans of sorts, that came with 2 (stronger?) guys that carried the heavy stuff.
From the last place we stayed in to here, we had to move some of the things by bus... wait, make that 2 buses and 1 stop walking O.O EWWWW That included moving 2 cats, a desk computer, and forgot what else.

Yikes, that sounds so awkward, lol. What a hassle that must've been.
Yup! both a hassle and a bit awkward XD but in the end, it makes for good stories to tell the grandchildren, should they ever happen, lol. - or we'll borrow the kids from our cousins, and tell them this story XD ;p

Oh goodness, okay. So in like October of 2015 my husband (then boyfriend) moved down to Texas to work on the pipeline. I stayed to finish up our lease and get the house all packed up, etc. On February 24, 2016 I was scheduled to move out. Well I had been feeling sick a few days before and the day before moving I went to the doctor. Found out I had the flu. She said to take it easy and not go on my 1000+ mile road trip to Texas. Well, I ignored her because I had hardly anything packed (I'd been dealing with a bad depressive episode and procrastinated ?) and HAD to move out. Ended up overexerting myself and had a severe asthma attack. Spent a night in the hospital while my mom and aunt moved everything out of our rental for me, and I had to stay at my parent's house for an extra week to get better.

I reckon a very odd story from a few years ago with some very spicy movers. We had a 5 rooms apartment to empty and hardly any 'crazy big furnitures'. We had been sent a team of 3 movers which came with one of them being injured from the very start. They took a lot of breaks paid by us and wheeled our furnitures around town (and we were just moving a few blocks away!) To add to the fiasco, we had to help them move things. I vaguely remember them leaving at like 1 am in the damn morning. What went from a nice move ended up being a nightmare. It took 12 hours to move us from a small apartment and we had to pay over $2k+ for the poor labour we were given. They also damaged my bedframe and our leather sofa. We've never seen the insurance money either.
Now that I'm planning another move, I'm doing it without faith at all.
My partner and I went apartment hunting in fall of last year, and didn't find anything decent 'til December. A few looked promising, but one ended up having RIDICULOUS gas/electric bills because the insulation was terrible, and the layout was weird. We planned a tour for a cute place with a garage and a fireplace, but someone else paid the deposit before we could get there. Another nickle-and-dimed tenants and had dead roaches lying around, another had LIVE roaches crawling on the walls... agh.
We did finally find a place within our budget with great features/amenities (the in-unit washer/dryer was honestly the thing that convinced me the most). Another tenant in the same complex wanted to move to the unit we looked at, and they would've had first dibs, but they ended up changing their mind. It was a massive relief!
Moving day was in January and the weather was literally perfect. No snow/ice, no rain, decently warm--like it's definitely global warming fucking shit up, but I was appreciative that I didn't have to worry about slipping on concrete steps while hefting around boxes and bookcases. ? Even with that in mind and with a lot of help from family and friends, it was still a huge pain in the ass. We still haven't 100% unpacked stuff, and some of our stuff is still at our old places, but it's a process lol.
In some cities, there are folks working on organizing tenants and fighting for tenant rights/better living conditions. If there are any distinctly lefty businesses/places around town, there might be information posted, or you could check online to see if any groups are forming. One group in my state recently took down one of the biggest slumlords, whose properties were falling apart and full of health hazards (pests, black mold, etc.). Point is, if such a group exists, they might have advice/help for you.
