Do you have any specific issues with your skin? Too oily/too dry/etc.?

My problem is eczema and acne. I'm well into adulthood, but I have yet to get rid of this crap on my face. Every so often it just flares up (there's a nasty cystic zit on my face right now that I have like a solid inch of cover-up on). Of course, I try to break and drain them, even though I know you shouldn't, but it's just there and shouldn't be and I can't help it. I have tried sooooooooo many products it's not funny. I have found that the natural options work better - products that are mostly organic and don't have too many or any nasty chemicals in them. I like colloidal oatmeal creams for my eczema. A combination of that and a prescription hydrocortizone seems to keep it under control unless I get a bad flare-up. I also have auricular (in the ears) rosacea, which causes my ears to be puffed up and flaky and I effing hate that so much. I use the same creams for that as my eczema though, and it keeps it well enough. Everyone on both grandmothers' sides of the family has bad skin though, so I'm kind of screwed genetically.

Moisturize often. Even with the shittiest lotion, lotion that bitch up.

Also, I recently bought a bottle of micellar water and whole crap was that amazing. And it's not that expensive.

SPF on your face every day. No exceptions!

I'd start with something simple:

  1. A cleanser to wash your face with.
  2. A moisturizer to apply after washing your face. (You only need to wear SPF during the day.)

You leave lotion on your face. Something like a sleeping mask is a moisturizing product that you eventually wash off (typically you apply it before bed and wash it off when you wake up).

I'm Korean but I think Asian beauty routines have too many products and steps. Some people like that though and it works for them. Some of the products are very good and reasonably priced. I think Asian skincare has taken off in popularity because the routine of cleansing and moisturizing itself is very effective in improving many peoples' skin. Asian skincare also stresses the importance of sun protection.

The Ordinary is my current favorite for skincare. I use their Buffet serum and Rose Hip face oil. I use a sunscreen stick from Shiseido for my face, cleansers from Su:m37, Tula, and Kiehl's (just whichever one I feel like using, not all of them at once), and a moisturizing mask from AHAVA twice a week. I like rosewater spray a lot, and use Stridex if I'm breaking out.

Maybe research on Reddit? r/SkincareAddiction and r/AsianBeauty have guides and tons of information.

Drink lots of water and eat healthy too. That and sunscreen are the simplest things people can change to make their skin better in my opinion (if they don't have skin problems that warrant seeing a dermatologist).

i don't have many specific products to recommend but, i think a lot of it is just finding products for each step and then not straying from it, like a cleanser, a toner, a moisturizer that doesn't make you break out/react negatively. i think it takes a lot of trial and error to find what fits you. i personally use a lot of cheaper end products for my face but they work just fine. two things i would recommend tho: rose hip oil, the less yellow-orangey the oil the better because then it's less diluted i believe, & bliss ex-glow-sion moisturizer, because i've found their products to be really good for sensitive skin. :~)

I'm really tan too and rarely burn. The sunscreen is for warding off wrinkles and overall skin health.

I'd check out the products that are offered at Italian pharmacies. I love the French ones that focus more on beauty than anything else. I buy my Deciem things at an American pharmacy like that.

Other things I like: Pixi Glow Tonic (for exfoliating), Smith's Rosebud Salve (lip balm), and acne stickers (overnight).

I think a simple way to try things out would be to get samples from a clerk in a shop. Sometimes I feel good about my skincare routine when I buy what I need from the same range and just use those things because it's easy.

I hope you like them! Also, I forgot to mention sheet masks. For me they're a really nice treat when I have a special event or my skin is really dehydrated and needs extra attention.
