When I make a post and write @ before someone's name, like I ping myself and I get a notificatoin. Also the name becomes a link automatically.
However, when I forget to ping someone, make the post, then go back to edit that post, the name after the @ doesn't become a link. Do they still get a notification despite their name not being a link? If not, how do I notify them?
they'll still get the ping if you edit in the @ it only appears without a link because you've edited the post. not sure technically why this is so, but if you refresh the page you will see the ping is now a link ;)
you can also re-ping a person to the same post (or group if you're pinging a group using the # hashtag for the group) by editing the post with a space between the @ and the name, then re-editing and removing the space. or you can put a / or something instead of a space, like "@/chookie"
hope that helps!

Oooh soo if I understand your explanation correctly it's like this? =
1st edit - I still get pinged despite it being an edit
2nd edit @/inuraichi - I don't get pinged.
3rd edit - I get pinged a 2nd time in the same post.
Thanks! ^-^ Also pinging groups is done with a # isntead of an @? (I didn't evne know I could ping groups, cool!)
you got it!
as far as i know most groups you can ping as they're public groups, but some have restrictions on who can use the ping (i think? but i could be wrong). i see you're in the Posting Frenzy group as well, so for example the tag for that group is "frenzy" - of course with the #. you can find the tag for each group in brackets under the group description on the forum groups page, or on the individual group page. (as in like this page here for Frenzy) i hope that makes sense!
if i see a giveaway or event or something i think people in that group might like, and if the group hasn't been pinged already, i might go ahead and ping the group, but i tend to only do that with certain groups i'm a member of, and only in certain situations :)

Yes it's also true some groups have restrictions on who is allowed to ping them. The choices are:
Anyone can ping Only group members Only group admins
The option can be adjusted in the group settings by the owner or group admins. Most groups I think just use the default anyone can ping, but some groups adjust this option to help limit spam if the group has a tendency to be accidentally pinged or pinged more frequently than people would like.
For example, the group is admin only, so only staff members can use it to spread official information (it still shows as a link in my post, but it won't ping anyone because I'm not an admin).
Awesome! <3 Thanks both of you for the explanations~
way better articulated than my brain could've formulated rn :) thanks!
you're welcome~
