This happened less than 30 miles from where I am currently, around the Lawrence, KS area. That article actually covers several that happened last night but does mention the one in Lawrence/Linwood, which was reported to be a mile wide and started as F3 before reaching F5 speeds as it passed.
Thankfully it went north of us and we just got some rain, but doing research into it/finding news articles it looks like there have been tornadoes all over the US for the past week or more and we're expecting more. If you're in a place that's tornado prone please watch out, and if you know people in those places please keep in touch but also understand it might take a few days before they can confirm if they're okay as tornadoes like this take down cell towers and such.
I hope anyone else affected by this or any other tornadoes is safe and that this weather will die down soon.
I live in the Shawnee Mission area of KS and I was watching the storm on television until our sirens started going off. I've never seen a storm like that, the footage of it before it hit Linwood was just shocking. I'm so glad you're okay! Luckily all is quiet tonight.
