I am almost to level 16 and was just wondering how many levels are there total? I know the last item is a level 18 but do you still level up after that or do you stop leveling up after you hit that mark?

there is no final level. Over the years the idea of difficulty was added, and as new magical recipes are shared by NPC Fantine some of them are more difficult than ones she has granted us before.
