I'm not sure if this is the right board or not, so feel free to move!
I've got two lined up to ensure I am working full time, but I just quit my last job of three years and its literally refreshing, let me just explain because its a long tangent LOL.
So, I am a groomer. I started working for PetSmart in 2015 and I honestly loved working there. I loved my clients (the dogs) I had the occasional crazy owner here and there, but when you're working in a fishbowl with 10 other women, it can get pretty catty. Not to mention there are unrealisitic expectations set towards groomers, and the fact that Petsmart has started taking out pay of the groomers commissions. (So aside from the media which I know there is a LOT of negative media out there with groomers. Im going to stress there are always two sides to a story and we're only given one side)
The Salon Manager I had played favorites and it was painfully obvious. She would allow certain groomers to get away with things that others could not or essentially break policy to her own benefit. I had an incident happen recently that was out of my control, and the pet parent knew of the risks that would happen because his dog was as matted as she was. He was also confused as to why he had to be refunded, and even reminded me that I was then $80 out of a groom, and the six hours that I spent had been wasted. My salon managed justification was I should have stopped the groom, even though the dog was completely done. (she had a double hematoma due to the matting on her ears being as tight as they were -- they HAD to be shaved.)
The other groomers I worked with, were angry for me, I called my mom because I was just livid with the situation and how it was handled, and my mom is usually one of those people who tells me that there are going to be good and bad days of course and to just tough it out, but this time, my she basically told me that I needed to find something better and something that isnt PetSmart. lol.
So I put my two weeks in. My salon manager basically gave me the cold shoulder for leaving. My store manager hardly said anything to me so (:
But I had a TON of support from friends and family when it came to the decision to leave.
You groomers put up with so much shit I can't even fathom how you all keep your heads on straight haha! Some of the stories I've heard are just insane. I'm also in the pet industry, and I really hate the rap that groomers get from both the public and owners for 'shaving their beloved baby' when the thing is matted to all hell and looks like a dirty bath mat.
It's always such a relief when you leave a job you've been really struggling with or just disliking in general. I'm sure you'll be much happier at wherever you end up next :)
