I spent time and energy laundering and folding four shirts for David and one shirt for mom last night.

I brought them to her. She says “They smell like cigarette smoke! Now I have to rewash them”. I said “I’m sorry I can’t use scented laundry detergent because of my allergies and the fact I have to go to all natural detergent. Don’t ask me to wash anything in the future” and she says “You’re miserable! So negative”

I did her a favour and she calls me miserable, negative and makes me smell her current shirt.

I can’t stand the smell of scented items ever since I went scent free. I’m allergic to store bought soaps and detergents because it’s all chemicals.

Now I’m upset. And I’m a non smoker for the record. I have permanent antibiotic resistant bronchitis because of the extremely heavy smokers two units two from me. All of our venting systems are connected and my unit always smells like I have a black market cigarette operation plus with the constant stench of sewer coming from next door because they’re unclean people and they smell.

They're family and I just wanted to help them out?

If I standup for myself, I'm negative, a bitch, or God knows what else.

So what. My mother had to cut off her toxic, abusive half of the family and basically we just went, "Fine, go ahead, make up some form of us that doesn't exist if it helps you deal."

We've been better in the long haul. But that's my experience and I wish I could help more than go, "Hey, here's my experience in a situation like, maybe you can take something from it that'll help."

Actually!!! I did go limited contact with my dad!! It's better late than never and I haven't been happier :D

It just me awhile to make a decision

Honestly that living situation sounds super concerning. o.o Especially if you have allergies and sensitivities it must be miserable living with that kind of smoke contamination.

I know there's probably not much you can do- it's not like you can get people to stop smoking and I'm sure you live where you do for a reason, but I'm so sorry your mom was so demanding. It's hard for me to imagine a mom that wouldn't be more concerned about your health! D:

Did your mom ask you to do her this favor? Maybe she never visits you, and that's too bad.

I also use scent-free detergents because of skin allergies for me.

There are some natural essential oils that are strong-smelling but don't irritate me. The "it's all chemicals" for me is that for the scented detergent that they're cheapo industrial scents that most but not all people aren't allergic to. For the companies to sell their detergent that's enough. Essential oils are too expensive for detergents, so some of them are not overused and pervasive enough to buy my lungs, and they don't make me react.

Dunno if they'd bug your lungs though. If they don't at least you can let a few drops out every few days and the horrible smells will be masked.

She very rarely comes to visit. I only live here because I can afford it. She asked me to wash the clothes too.

THAT'S THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE!!! They add so many chemicals because it's cheap. I use all natural and honestly... haven't had a problem since.

I use all natural goat detergent powder. It's $30 for a huge tin off Amazon. I love it and I'll be sticking to it. I use the citrus, but the lavender is nice too.

I am looking for a new apartment. I'm stressed too. I've been looking for the last year with no luck. Landlords:

1. Don't return my e-mail. I check and the unit is already rented

2. Are rude (true story: I messaged a LL saying you're response time is two hours but you responded the next day saying sorry, it's rented. He said "I don't know why I'm responding to you. We had over 50 e-mails and we interviewed two. (wow. two people is groundbreaking). Must be nice for you to try and cut other people off eh?." I never responded. I also found out that a tenant blacklist is going around all my city's landlords of "difficult" or "destructive" tenants (I think it's illegal and a total invasion of privacy). I'm pretty sure my name is on the list, but I have no way of checking because I'm not joining the FB group. It's for LL and real estate agents only. I took my LL to the board, that went no where. I've called by-law multiple times, that went no where.... even the health unit went no where.

3. They pretty much say sorry, you can't afford it (and I'm pretty sure it's because I have too many allergies).

4. They won't consider mobile washing machines

Another story: One LL said "I'll consider a mobile washing machine. Let's meet Friday".

That was two weeks ago. After three more e-mails, I gave up. I knew she was a bitch and wouldn't rent to me.

OMG I am going straight to amazon to buy some goat detergent powder because that sounds awesome!!
