Hi All,
Basically, I've always been fascinated with restocking and wanted to try it out. I've read a basic guide, but I'd love to hear from current restockers what their journey was like!
Thanks!

Basically, I started in Defend and Conquer and Weapon Warehouse when some of the best weapons on the site restocked. I then began most of my time restocking Subeautique items, which it use to be a main shop restockable store. That latter is where I made my main bread and butter. Coming from Neopets this was much easier to restock at and eventually you learn what is good and what isn't from trial and error.
Basically for the most part, restocking newer items and then restocking things that only restock in 1 or 1-3 items will net you some profit in some shape or form.

Ok! Very cool. Does any main shop work? Do I pick one to focus on because I merely like what they sell? Restocking times are a mystery to me too.... I guess, it's just a lot of observation? :)

Basically, what I do is just restock newer items, since the Super Rare ones don't vend at all you can net a good profit off of those items and those that do vend tend to be priced quite high so if you set them at great deals within the first few days. People tend to see that and snag those up to either keep or them selves or try to resell @ higher prices.
However pick spots, that either introduce newer items to their inventory, shops like spells galore, shops with desirable collections (foods, wearables, plushies, books and beanbags) I would suggest if you're first starting out, familiarize yourself with one shop and then work your way to other shops. Like start with spells galore. :)

Ok yeah that makes total sense. And by newer items, you mean new to the site, correct? At which point I'd keep my eyes out on the newsfeed for any new item releases? Revamped items aren't the same thing, right?
Thank you so much for answering my million and one questions! Sadly, my job is v. boring and since I've always wondered about restocking, I have the time to explore it! haha Thank you!

Yes, newer items added to the site like currently the Retro Galaxy items. Just be warned competition is very tight for those right now but its worth it if you stick with restocking :P
No worries, I lurve restocking so I love to help out in that area as much as possible. :)

I like to restock the mid rarity older items, usually with a value between 15k and 50k. They tend to be left behind after the rare item restockers have gone trough a store's stock and are easy to pick up in large quantities. Also most are in the aproximate price range for quest items so they sell fast. restocking from stores with varying item images (like weapon warehouse) is easier but therefore less good stuff gets left behind for you to buy. restocking stores with lots of recolored items is harder, but if you learn whats expensive will probably net you more (since less people are restocking it).
First of all quests are way way more profitable than restocking is. For a given amount of RL time playing Subeta, if your goal is to make sP, do your quests first and then restock for profit later. Only do restocking if you think it's fun. If you just wanna get items to fill Collections, vending is cheap, easy, and takes up less of your time.
I personally find it easier to look for older items. Even though they are not selling for nearly as much, they are much easier to snag. For the same amount of my RL time in the same shop, I can make more buying many older items than I can by waiting waiting waiting and then hoping my fast-twitch muscles are working properly at just that very exact moment.
If you are good at memorizing, you can go to SubetaLodge a fansite with an item database. Use it to pick one shop and sort by rarity and or user price and memorize all of those items old or new.
If you are not, then it's a lot of trial and error. Me, I go for stuff that experience tells me is going to get me around 16KsP to 20KsP profit, no matter what the multiplier of the wholesale price that might actually be. Rarity is only sometimes a good indicator of this, even though rare items do get price-supported by the site. This is easy for me to do and doesn't require much in the way of brainpower or speed.
Oh I see, That's also really smart to target quest items given that so many people are questing! What is considered a mid rare item? It seems like 80 and above is rare? Is there a place I can learn this? Maybe the item directory? Also, what is a "varying item image" and how do they differ from a "recolored item"? Sorry! I'm totally clueless. Thank you for the solid advice!!
Thank you!! That totally makes sense about how to spend your time, and SubetaLodge is a phenomenal resource! Thanks for sharing it. :) Yeah, there's something kind of fun about finding a hidden gem! What do you mean by "multiplier of the wholesale price"??

I started by targeting r65+ items in one main shop at a time. I think I started with Book Nook.
I went to SubetaLodge, sorted by rarity lowest to highest and tried to memorize the more common ones first (that were still rarity Rare), and then camped in the shop and bought them. After camping in the shop for a long time, I memorized the item images and which items would show up, which items would pretty much always be in the shop, and what order they'd go in. So then I'd just spend a lot of time refreshing in the shop and trying to catch restocks. If an item popped up that I've never seen in there before, or see in there very rarely, then I'd go for it even if I don't know what rarity it is, because chances are it's a Super Rare.
Then I moved on to Quick Bites, Food Market, Rathskeller Inn, The Lost Skeleton, and so on. Every so often I'd start "learning" a new shop to add to my restocking rounds.
So it's a lot of practice and just memorizing the items. I haven't restocked in a while but I can still pick out the Rare items in several of these shops because I've burned them into my memory xD
[edit] The reason I targeted Rare+ items is because these are guaranteed a profit - even if the item doesn't sell for a profit, you can fragmentize it and sell the crystals for a profit. This might not be true nowadays though, this was back in the days when fragmentizing non-Rare items would sometimes not give you a crystal at all, and Rare items would give one guaranteed crystal.

It really depends on your style/preference. I have a friend who prefers to stalk potions, essentially quality over quantity, where I'll restock anything that turns any kind of a profit.
My technique was to basically start in one store, keep a tab open for the store and a tab for shop search so I could cross-check values. Then, move to other stores, and just learn what's valuable, and get a feel for how values fluctuate - because they do - over time.
Basically, just practice and attention. Like I also gravitate toward Rare and up items if I see them because those are generally a bit higher value. You'll find your own pace, though!
Edit: If you decide restocking is your thing or at least one of the things you enjoy doing on site, then a gold account is critical. The autopricer will save you. Having to hand-price hundreds of items is a soul-sucking task.
the rarity to target varies wildly I am afraid and I mostly go for a profit margin of 10k minimum. Finding these items takes a bit of trail and error and doing quests to see what apears often (the library quest and maleria ask for very specific item groups that rarely to never get new additions).
As for the item images unique (varying) item images (example from minion market): Recolored item images (example from bean me up): I mean with which one of these would it be easier to remember which one is worth something. As very little people would be able to remember what specific color of what pet species beanbag is a expensive one it is possible there's a lot of expensive beanbags still in store most of the time.
also extra tip: if while questing you come across a item that has more than 1 in the npc store and is expensive in user stores, just buy the npc store's whole stack of that item.
Sorry I can't figure out how to say it in any more perspicuous way
That's a really good point, I do that while questing and it's a good way to start learning what's valuable, IE, what the questgivers are asking for. Buying a couple extra of something you notice is valuable during a quest is a really easy way to start.
Yes, that's so smart! That's what would make sense to me. Start small then branch out. When you get bored, move to another store!
I think I might be the same way as your friend. I love quality over quantity. And tell me about it! I've been hand pricing everything and it's freaking exhausting.... Haha! I just don't know if I'd take advantage of the other GA perks to make it worth it, yah know?
Ohhkayy! Yeah, I totally get it. Esp, the varying item images vs. recolored item image. It makes sense that a recolored item would require a bit more of a keener eye to catch. Like an eye puzzle/search set up. And smart about the questing tip! I figured if I just pay attention and restock for fun here and there I'll get it eventually... haha Thank you!
no worries! Thank you though!!

Oh I get it, those things are a chunk of change! For me, though, the adblock functionality alone is worth it, never mind the autopricer. You could try one of those weeklong or three day gold accounts to see if you like it enough to pay for more. :)
Yeah then I will not be a good person for advice. I don't target at all, I just buy stuff. It's the buying itself that makes me happy, plus profits, but I find I personally feel more stressed if I have to try and mentally calculate average earnings. But if it works for you, best of luck! :D
(Bug's got a good point, too, Defend and Conquer and Weapon Warehouse are decent places to start because a lot of those are at least a 10x profit. Easy place to practice)
If you are going to be sincerely restocking all the time, the GA is valuable more than anything because it allows you to have an Inventory of 250 instead of 100. Subeta is already item-intensive, and you are going to add even more things for you to do item-management on. To me, autopricing and adblocking are secondary.
I'm not a very regular restocker, but I just go into a shop, buy up one of everything, and then check the item hover prices from my inventory and buy multiples of whatever I feel is valuable enough to do that with. My memory isn't good enough to learn which items are valuable though, and between the 15% discount buff and my discount card, any item selling for at least its main shop price is already valuable (and I just figure anything that isn't selling for at least its main shop price will be evened out by the more valuable things I manage to snag in the process). If you're a quality over quantity person, this probably isn't the method for you, but it might help you in learning the shop stocks better. I know that just from staring at the stock while I buy everything in order, I can generally tell when a new restock adds something I hadn't seen yet. I just don't retain it for very long once I stop restocking, nevermind the actual value :')
Also, backtracking a bit but what meant is that he aims for items that give at least 16-20k profit whether that's on top of a 2k price tag or a 20k price tag from the main shop. He's looking at the total profit rather than a percentage (making double the money back on a 20k item versus 10x the money back on a 2k item)
I really need to branch out my restocking lmao. I usually stick to all the food shops because my food gallery is always hungry T^T. I'm familiar with all the food shops. Will just scroll right to the bottom and start picking things off while scrolling up.
There are some overlooked main shops that I'll sometimes lurk whenever I'm not in the mood for restocking competition. It's nice to relax xD.
I guess my top tip that hasn't been mentioned thus far is that shops will restock on the minute, so refresh at XX:00 on the timestamp to catch restocks.
Shops also reset at 02:00AM subeta-time, so plan your restocking around that if your timezone necessitates.
Also another tip is to restock from the bottom scrolling up the page to the top. Newer items are worth more.
Ohhh I see. Yeah that makes sense about the "multiplier" and the base price and what not. It's so interesting how everyone has different styles! I'm realizing restocking is just basically, go in, figure it out, and do you! Haha Thank you for the explanation and advice!
You bought one of my proud restocks... LOOL <3 I did notice the bottom is where a ton of goodies like to hang out! And thank you for the time tip! The 2am restock means the shops get a whole new stash of goods for the day? I didn't know they reset? Thank you, thank you for all the help!
