Hello - I'm very new and wondering what kind of categories people use for their wishlists. I'm wishlisting everything that I even remotely like and it's gonna get unorganized very quickly!

What main categories do you make for your lists? I'm making stickers/plushies/beanbags and maybe one for wardrobe? Seems like it could be broken down a bit more.

Just looking for some thoughts and what has worked for you, thanks!

I have one where I stick items during events (Survival/Masquerade/Vesnali/etc.) so I can keep track while buying them, two for CWs (public/private), 5 layer-related wearables (broken up into clothes/shoes/hair/makeup + face/accessories/backgrounds + foregrounds), SubQ items, plushies, beanbags, stickers, food for my gourmand boy, battle items, a miscellaneous category that is mainly for my gallery/shit I can't remember why I WL'd it, Delish + Vanity items, and a bunch for pet TCs

tl;dr is that I have a fucking lot of categories so I don't know if that's at all helpful BUT one thing I do find generally useful is I have all of mine lettered with the category name, so A - Current event, B - CWs, etc. so they show up in the order I stuck them in and if I were feeling not so lazy, I could reorder them so they're a little more coherent :)

This is so helpful, thank you! I think I'm just getting overwhelmed by all the things and my NEED to organize is coming out :D

I have quite a few categories. You are more than welcome to look at mine to see if you get any ideas. I like keeping up with mine and keeping it organized.

I use mine for pet TCs, CWs I want, Super wanted.

A lot of people also use it to tell what CWs they own.

I have general achievements, pet dolls, always need, gallery 1 & 2, wardrobe, specific pet tc, gourmand, plushies, beanbags, books, event tracking. Several private categories to track stuff for myself, stuff I'm not particularly looking for but will add to my collections if I happen to get them from quests/random events, etc.

Seriously though, my categories have changed a lot over the years. Some as my needs changed - when I got the highest beanbag tier, for example, I stopped buying beanbags, so dropped that list. Then they upped the tier and I added it back. I got the higher tier, but this time I left it there. Its really a dynamic thing. I don't think it will ever be "settled" and set in stone.

Obviously names may vary, but I've found I need to be very specific with mine, because I may put a whole bunch of stuff in there and then not look at it until months later and forget why it's there!

My current titles include:

  • Cool Clothes I Might One Day Like to Own
  • For Achievements
  • To satisfy my need for bun-buns
  • Not Expensive Books but I Ran Out of sP
  • Very Expensive Books Read By Only One pet Who Is Not Anozira

The last two are currently empty, leftovers from when I was trying to get all nine of my Tier 1 pets to have read the same books. I'll probably delete them soon, but I included them so you get the idea of how specific I sometimes am. XD

Looking at my unsorted, I should probably make a couple of categories for weapons which would include "Weapons Highly Recommended to Me" and "Weapons I found with stats that make them seem like a good idea to buy". That way I know why I wanted said weapons. I also desperately need a category called "It was in the news and I thought it looked cool".

"Cool Clothes I Might One Day Like to Own" is bloated (it currently has 767 items in it) and I probably need to go through it, but I don't look forward to that. :/

Also, and you may have discovered this already, but I really like how it is really, really easy to change what your default category is. When I know I'm going to be casually browsing stuff, like on Subetalodge or in the Cash shop, I can easily switch the default to the appropriate category and then I won't have to sort them manually later. I just need to remember to switch back to unsorted when I'm done so later things don't get miscategorized.

Most of the things on my wishlist right now are items from some of the various holiday and special currency shops, so I mostly have them organized by which shop they come from. I also have some categories for collection items like beanbags, stickers, etc.

I still use my Unsorted category since it can't be deleted, I kind of just keep random things that don't really fit in any of the other categories there. I usually don't have too many random items in my WL though, so it works well enough for my purposes.

These are such good suggestions! My brain works exactly the same way and I already knew I would be making categories like "You can't afford this but you need it" hahah

Oooh I will definitely need holiday categories, thanks!

I see a lot of people have given some really good suggestions, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

I have a different category for each shop; for example, I have a Steamworks Menagerie category, a Token Shop category, and a Subeautique category. Mostly I find this helpful because I'm just trying to buy them all at some point, but I need a place to keep track of what I have and don't have. There are some exceptions, too: I have a Restocks category, which is all the stuff that restocks in an NPC shop; and if I need specific items for an achievement that I'm actively working on, sometimes those will go in a different category, like my Morse Code Pastries category right now.

I really like sorting my WL into shop categories, because if I have a certain amount of currency to spend for a shop, I can just look at it all together and decide what I want.

Thanks for the reply! The way you do it makes a lot of sense to me and I think I might end up doing some version of this. Especially knowing what comes from what shop for currency purposes is extremely helpful!
