Made it through all the stress of this week and this is what has reduced me to tears.

D: I... I have no words.

It's heartbreaking. I hope they can save some of the paintings and sculptures.
Yup, they saved all the moveable art pieces

It's horrific. I'm in front of my tv right now here in France, and everyone is really really upset. The French say that it's like the "heart" of France, iconic also symbolic of it's previous Catholic status. But also of its litterature. The cathedral houses a lot of art of various kinds. And houses near by.
This is absolutely devastating. Was watching CNN this morning when the videos of smoke were being shown, and, just checked again to see the spire fall. I hope they are able to get the flames under control asap, and safely!
Your links appear to be broken! :(
- the links don't work? Ah so sorry, I'll just take them down then. Thanks for letting me know!
News channels here are saying that 400 firefighters are at the cathedral but that it's not looking good to save it... T_T;
I'm so relieved they managed to save the moveable artwork. I keep thinking of this famous gargoyle.
- Of course! And, wow... Such a grand piece of history being destroyed.

BREAKING: Structure of has been saved from total destruction, a French firefighter official is quoted by Reuters saying. But one fireman has been seriously injured in the blaze

Just heard from a French friend here on Subeta that their mother (in Paris) received a phone alert to say the structure might be able to be saved after all. Thank God for that! I hope that includes the magnificent stained glass windows too.
Found more news on a French news site. The Crown of Thorns, believed to have been worn by Jesus, and other relics including the linen tunic of Saint-Louis have been carried to safety.
I've been checking in on this all day since I first heard about it this morning at work. Sounds like they are hopeful they can save the main structure and the two towers, but it's still burning.
I'm worried about the organ, even if they can save it, the water damage might still destroy it :(
- That's good! Last I heard they didn't know the status of those items.
I am devastated hearing this. I got the chance to visit there and sit in on a service last year and thinking about it being gone is unimaginable. I hope they can save it-- though I fear for the stained glass. I'd imagine it would have already shattered (or melted or whatever) because of the heat. I truly hope not.
heard they've lost some of the stained glass... omg....
