So my question is should videos with period related PRODUCTS be age restricted? Like someone just showing the products and reviewing them. nothing inappropriate like body parts or demonstration on how they are to be used..

Also if you think it's fine for them not to be age restricted is it also ok for that same person to review toys (such as pikmi pops a children's toy) on that channel? Or do you think they should create separate channel for the toy reviews? and if so why?

Please no hateful or rude comments.

I kinda see this in many points of views.. maybe they should be age restricted cause a young child may come across them..but on the other hand children see the products in the bathrooms and in stores (it's not like it's something that has to be hidden).

A reviewer should be aloud to review whatever they want on there channel.(as long as it does not violate any term and conditions of the site there using and the product is a legal one). On the other hand if there reviewing more grown up things like period products then a parent may not feel comfortable letting there child watch there channel..so maybe a channel just for children related reviews might be a good thing.. Then again the parents might watch the channel (that has the period products) for birthday/holiday gift ideas..

the toys are NOT adult toys..

Periods, and by extension their products, should not be taboo. A product designed to handle a natural, normal, bodily function should not be taboo. It should be considered with the same normalcy that someone might review say brands of band-aids or wrist braces.

You make a good point; children see period products in stores all the time. Heck if they go shopping there's a good chance someone might pick one up - mom or older sis may need some, dad might be picking some up for either one, ect. If a parent feels uncomfortable letting their child watch a channel that's reviewing period products that's on the parent, and personally I think they need to rethink their priorities because they are teaching their child that the subject is taboo when it shouldn't be.

Two channels I really love on YouTube are As/Is and Ladylike, both of which have videos about period products among other things including one where they actually tested tampons with something mimicking period blood (a mixture of cranberry juice, chocolate syrup and corn syrup to be exact) so it was thick and properly colored like real blood and they have videos about using period cups, and a recent video where the women went without period products for a single period. As far as I can tell those videos are not age restricted, which personally is as I think it should be. I laugh at the videos because I don't see periods and their products as taboo and if a kid were to watch them maybe they'd have questions, but if they're old enough to ask questions they're old enough to know in some capacity.

Period products are not 'grown up' things. Now if you were doing say 18+ toys that's an entirely different story. If you were doing makeup that had sexually themed names I'd be a little more iffy. But personally I want to end the taboo around periods and period products, so I say as long it's not like a tampon going into the proper place or something it's fine and in fact I'd actually encourage it being shown in a place where kids might see to encourage the ending of the taboo and stigma around it.

Girls as young as 9 are capable of having a period, so no I don't think they should be age restricted. The taboo needs to end. There shouldn't be a need for a separate channel.

Lmfao, no.

It shouldn't be taboo. It's a pain in the ass and the sooner it's made lesser taboo and more understood that men and women (I'm including trans here) have periods, the better. It shouldn't be age restricted. It shouldn't be murmured in back corners.

It's not "Omg sexual! Protect the kids!" It's a period, it's a bloody mess and UNFORTUNATELY, until someone makes an off switch besides bottom surgery, normal (as in a thing that happens) from a very young age til middle age.

Yeah periods really need to be normalized, so I don't think ads for sanitary products or videos discussing periods should be age restricted. I really wish my mom and older sisters had told me about periods when I was younger. TMI incoming, but I started my period when I was 10 so I didn't even get the chance to learn about it in school. I legit thought I was leaking from my ass and I was too embarrassed to ask my parents for help, so I waited days until I finally broke down from fear. Then my mom had the nerve to laugh at me for NOT knowing what it was. ? If parents are too embarrassed or ashamed to talk about periods with their children, then they really shouldn't have children to begin with.

Of course not.

Many people who have periods are taught that it's something "taboo" or shameful that shouldn't be discussed. Many people even shy away from the word period and instead say "time of the month", "lady trouble" or some other stupid thing. It's ridiculous.

Kids need to know about them, how to stay sanitary and how to deal with their period. Many kids aren't even taught how to use tampons because of idiotic notions about them being "improper." Having a period isn't shameful and education is necessary (and should NOT be left up to parents unless the parents are going to actually teach properly). Educational videos about periods should NOT be age-restricted and there's no valid reason to argue that they should be.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

It is like saying toilet paper is too mature for kids. There is no reason to age-restrict this basic human hygiene and biology info, especially because kids and start puberty at quite young ages and so directly pertains to them. Restricting this information will only spread misinformation, and it will teach kids to be ashamed and disgusted about something totally normal, so I would even say it's irresponsible to prevent kids from seeing stuff like that.

Having period products reviewed on a kid-friendly channel seems like a great public service! I'd be happy to see that kind of content easily accessible to young adults who will be needing it.

so way it sounds everyone on here is all for what I actually do.

I review period products/show them in videos on youtube. The reason I asked about this was ive had older people (people set in there ways) try and tell me they wouldn't do what I do. I even got mouthed for showing there daughter how to put a pad on. just cause a 5 year old boy walked in the room.. I was using a pair of the girls underwear to demonstrate it's not like the girl was wearing them. her mother popped off "the door should have been locked". no way on earth was I locking the door just to demonstrate something. The mother was in the room with us. she could have showed her daughter how to do it but no she wanted someone else to do it. and in the end I got chewed out.

I agree with everyone else in that these types of things should be normalized so they're not taboo. I remember being embarrassed to talk about my period even with my mom.

There are always going to be haters for what you do. No matter what side you're on, or what you say, someone will disagree. You can't please everyone so keep your head high and keep doing you.

Thank you!

I agree with in that there will always be haters. There will always be those who were raised with the stigma of periods being this dirty and taboo thing who insist children shouldn't see it, or get mad when gods forbid a young boy should see anything related to periods or worse yet gasp actually want to educate themselves.

Don't let the haters get to you. It's because of people like you that hopefully the next generations will be more tolerant, and with any luck end the stigma. Keep doing what you do, you're making the world a better place.

thanks. I no longer go around the girl or her mother. turns out the girl turned into a boy crazed girl.. her mother blames everyone else for how she turned out.. anyway that's all on them. if you don't teach your kids and talk to them of course there going to do whatever they want and have no respect for others or themselves. Talks about periods should come from a family member not a non relative. coming from a mother helps build a stronger bond(in my opinion) between the child and the mother. when you pawn your kid off on others it shows you don't want the responsibility. so honestly in this case the girl turning out like she has (she is in a group home cause of ruining away and picking up guys and being underage) does not surprise me.

in my case its just the product is shown. no drawings are shown not even the instructions that come in the box( those would most likely violate some of my web hosts terms and conditions.)

I personally don't see why it would need to be. I believe there is a younger youtuber who talks about menstrual cups and the various brands available. I don't believe her videos are age restricted but I could be wrong.

Also with the toys as long as the age range is similar to the information being provided... like pre teen - teen.

half of the world's population menstruates, will menstruate or menstruated at some point. Those that have an issue with it are immature themselves, and shouldn't have children to begin with. Girls (and boys) NEED to know about the products used when menstruation happens, and what the process means for the female body -aka, she's capable of having children of her own. The taboo regarding this subject needs to stop. I do think you should probably put a warning at the beginning of the video, like "TMI for some viewers" and say why, and give them some time -a few seconds- to click away. This mention should be probably in the video's title as well.

I don't think the videos in which you review toys should be on a different channel, because this is what you do: you review products no matter their nature. Now, if it's adult toys... that should go on a side channel indeed, haha.

don't let the hate comments get to you. There will always be a person who will bash for no good reason. I understand it's hard at times, especially after you put so much effort in delivering an informative video. But the sad truth is that it's impossible to please everyone. The sooner you accept this, the better for you. I'm saying this as a piece of friendly advice, not trying to criticise you. I DO KNOW how hard it is to receive bad or negative feedback (my own self esteem is shit because of almost never receiving nice feedback from mother -.- and hearing something negative from others kinda crushes me). I just really want to help you if i can.

I really don't think they should be age-restricted at all. I started mine at 11 years old. I wish I had the internet back then to get more information. My mom helped of course, but there are some things you just wish you could look up yourself, you know? I would have loved to have been able to research different tampon/pad brands instead of standing in that aisle, looking things over. At 11 it was pretty embarrassing.

I personally don’t think so. Simply because there are a lot of kids who get their period super early (I got mine in 5th grade?) and I had no idea about it and was freaking out. I think it should definitely not be age restricted so when kids who are younger get their periods, they don’t feel ashamed or scared and have the resources and abilities to look things up themselves.

Nothing about this is taboo.
