(Rapidly types during lunch) Hoiii!
So, about a week or so ago I raised a suggestion on one of the Subeta discords I'm in to have a private directory of sorts.
This would in practice be a spreadsheet accessible to everyone listing wearables under the private status.
I also spoke of making something to track items considered hyper rare/ limited, that being between one and five public copies available to the market.
My reasoning behind wanting to do something like this is we're seeing a lot of new artists and even a few new buyers enter the market, and with the lack of forum search we have less transparency than ever. With how Subetas struggling as is I don't see a fix happening any time soon. But hey, this is one of the more lucrative parts of Subeta and we should take care of it as best we can. I know there have been talks of there being a tag system maybe? But with how staff have always stated they want nothing to do with the private side of things I figured it could be something community handled.
things of note
-Just because theres only sub ten of an item, does in no way mean it is automatically unobtainable/ has a high resale worth. And I'm honestly not really interested in tracking worth as it has been proven over the years very few items stand the test of time, so its a redundant stat. (Also things like artificial inflation make things hella muddy).
-Despite the above note I'd be happy to label items with normal or auctioned to give folk a general idea of what they're hunting.
The directory would be formed from info from the releaser of the item, so therefore any releaser on hiatus wont have their items listed until they are back and able to confirm for themselves.
If theres enough interest I will be starting with the items of 2019 and going backwards, know that over time more and more info will be lost, privates will be accidentally pawned/ sold off etc.
-because of the above note that this can never be a comprehensive list, but I don't see why we cant track recent releases (we're only four months in!) and things from now on.
-for arguments sake I'm taking the definition of private cw as 'No sell, no trade'. So friend groups/ birthday releases/ typically items released privately but with no restrictions will not be listed.
-Note with limited items I'm taking the assumption that any further copies are private or simply non existent. Again this excludes non restricted birthday/ semi-privately released items. EG: A cw with ten copies but only 5 public will be listed!
-I'm thinking of having the categories be like, Item name/ Releaser/Status/ Release Condition (normal or auctioned)/maybe a number stat for recolours?... though I know that one stands to change a lot.
Suggestions?
-venting does not = name calling or callouts, strictly keep to the topic.
-anything I'm missing?! Any other important stat you'd rather see listed?
Thanks for taking the time out to read /o/ I really don't know what to ping so... sorry guys;;
I don't think I would be able to help since I have a hard time remembering what's private. ;D I want to say this is a good idea because it would help people like me who are forgetful and doesn't want to make someone sad or mad if accidently sold something that was private.

I like this idea especially because of this point:
I don’t remember which CWs, but I struggled to buy some of them because they were rumored to be private when they were not. Though it was well intentioned, I had to contact the releaser in order to check. I think this idea makes everything much clearer if the information comes from releaser themselves.
Suggestion wise, I have nothing to provide at the time but I’ll check back for updates.
Pinging This is not about a release but since we are members of the CW community, this is about a solution I think we should consider.
i like dis. cus everything i like is private -_-. but like what do we do if there are a few public copies? i think that's where it gets complicated
nods @ snow @ spirited the releaser should volunteer that information, how many copies they release publicly, whether in the form of trades or auction.
hehe yeh. i think its just who would be up to maintain it i guess
This is a great idea! You could easily set up a publicly editable google sheet and distribute/post the link somewhere in a stickied thread, and then releasers could update their information themselves (and take some of the burden off of you to keep it updated!)
Something like this will be super helpful to active buyers and CW noobs alike, which is awesome. One of the bigger complaints from non-CW regulars seems to be items' private status and feeling frustrated about not wanting an item only to find out later that it's private and/or very rare. Your spreadsheet combined with the CW database that is working on might be super helpful to make CWs seem more approachable from an information aspect.
(Also, thank you for actively working on an idea like this and thinking about the CW community!!!)
I think there could easily be a column in the spreadsheet for number of public copies. had mentioned a section for "auctioned" which I think refers to private items that have a public copy),
ooh is there a way to lock each tab for each releaser? i would think then the bulk of the editing isn't stuck on one person
(also kinda hard when you don't want like too many people playing around with the sheet)
can the public editable spreadsheet somehow be restricted so only the releaser can edit?
The reason I ask is cause I mainly support this idea for the clarity. I wouldn’t want someone with good intentions to report something as private when it’s not said by the releaser themselves to muddy up the waters.
uhh... should I ping you every time? I don’t want to drown you in pings lol
oh! No worries about pinging me I am subbed to this thread so I see everything, I'm just a little rushed off my feet today, but it's great seeing a discussion starting! Theres already some really good points. Ty all!
I think it is a great idea and can be quite handy
I personally do no private releases (just very small batches)
but I always find it hard to find out wether items I have on my WL are private or not So I would love this idea
I am wondering would my small batches (Like lumi gifts for friends) fall under private? They are not - but then with lumi gifts I pay for the entire batches and just gift them BUT anyone who wants to can sell/trade them nobody has to keep them
and the status is not private

Oh hmm, I don't know if you could restrict access without making it complicated (you'd at the very least need the email address of each releaser so that they could have access to the sheet). I was just assuming that editing it would function on an honor system type basis, with hopes that people wouldn't go mess around with the numbers unless it was something they'd released.
So that's a good question to bring up!
Maybe Spirited could just have a thread you could post in every time you release something private, with a form to fill out with the information? Then at least Spirited would just have to copy and paste into the spreadsheet. :)
what bout - just simply a mass cw thread???
each releaser has their own post and they just update accordingly on their post.
Could work! Spirited could have a "Table of Contents" on the 1st post of the thread with a link to each releaser's post.
perhaps within a ping group then? :O multiple admins
OTL. i just read it fully hehe. of course with a warning for people to not touch it i guess.
when you lock a board, you can still alter it right? i guess people could work with an admin to get the board temporarily unlocked to add their post?
