Got this friend, tells me she has a medical issue. Then tells me it got some complications, tumors involved. Then she says she'll probably need an operation. Then she asks me for money for said operation, urgent A.F. Not that much, 600$, I empty my account with not a shadow of doubt or hesitation. 2 (TWO!) days later where do you think she is? Under a doctor's knife? In a hospital, waiting anxiously? Nope, in London, taking some pictures of the views. Ask her "are you having the operation in London?" she be like "oohh...nooo...forgot to tell you...it was fine, I was fine, I am fine...just...enjoying the fine news, hehe..."

Don't get me wrong, I wish her all the best, super glad it was "fine" and happy for her she's in London, she should travel anywhere...but...but-but...Bottom line, if she'd have asked to borrow money to just travel, I;d have given to her anyhow, for no matter what, why tell me shit with tumors? How well does she know me? What the hell does she think of me, what witch she thinks I am? And most of all, if it still makes me happy she's enjoying life, why do I still feel like crying? Crying and pointing at myself and laughing through the tears while yelling "you're such an idiot!" Am I mean for thinking this?

Edit a day later: I'm overwhelmed at the amount of responses, thank you, you really love me...in plm...

hey! im sorry to hear about what happened. I think it's normal to cry in this situation. You feel betrayed ... lied to. because this is what happened. You're not an idiot for believing her. Though i think the surgery would have cost more than $600 - unless she made you believe this is what she still needed to cover the bills. Even so, i don't think it's your fault. try not to blame yourself. She's an idiot, and she just became "the boy who cried <wolf!>" :( Just make sure to cut her out of your life from now on, since she wasn't honest and she didn't trust you. Not that you can trust her from now on. i hope she'll one day return the money. And if you don't get your money back, let this be your biggest loss, ever. Next time you give money to someone, make sure to draft some sort of a contract with them, to make them think twice about their request. And to increase the chance of getting it back. Or just don't give/borrow money anymore.

Things will be ok. stay safe.

i don't think money is that important, but it's nice to know you have it in case of an emergency. or when you see something nice and you really want to buy it. ;) it's normal to feel worse about the way you've been treated, and to forget about the cash. i hope you feel better soon!

People who do this sort of thing to other people are the scum of the earth, and you need to cut someone who is going to treat you like that out of your life - immediately. What an absolute garbage human. She took complete advantage of you, and I'm sorry that it happened. It's a hard lesson to learn sometimes, but hopefully this won't happen to you again.

Yep, true that! I think this is why I cried, for believing in her and realizing she burnt me...I still don't get it why? She knows me, she knows I'd do anything for her, why stoop to that?! W/E, I'm done anyway. Thanks for your input, very useful ❤

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Your friend took advantage of you and that's not okay. Her behavior was awful and manipulative.

You are such a kind-hearted person. You would have given her the money anyway, and even though you've been betrayed you're still happy she's enjoying life. I aspire to have that level of caring and kindness in me.

It's normal to feel sad and hurt when someone does something like this. I would absolutely cry my eyes out. Maybe think of this as a learning opportunity -- now you know to be a little more careful around her. Keep your chin up <3

Thank you!

It's sad to know there are people who see someone kind and wonderful as yourself as a means to take advantage of. Kick this person out of your life. Anyone who wouldn't give to you as much if not more than you would give to them is not worth your time and certainly not worth your energy. It is natural to want to cry when you find out someone is willing to take advantage of you, but lift your chin knowing it won't happen again. Don't let it make you stop giving to others just know that person ruined the chance for you to give to them again. Lift your chin knowing what others will gain because you are no longer pouring your energy into her.

Just another voice to add to the pile that this person needs to be friend-dumped. Cut 'em out of your life and if they try to worm back in, tell them that you can't be friends with someone that won't be honest and they've gotta come clean with you. If they play dumb and still say they actually had tumours or whatever, time to mute/block and move on. And even if they do fess up and you feel the friendship MIGHT be worth salvaging, you're still gonna have to keep them at arm's length after this stunt.

That, or say you can be friends again when you get your 6 benjamins back. THEN block her.

I'd dump someone over lying about even $35 and she skimmed $600 off you, goddamn. That's "I'm coming to your house to shit in your pot cupboard" levels of retaliation. (Don't do that, that is not actual advice.)

please send me any/all and so I can keep them safe
